Abstract

238,327. Marryat, H., (trading as Marryat & Place), and Williams, R. G. May 30, 1924. Shades and reflectors.-A prismatic, ribbed, corrugated, or plain glass lampshade or reflector B is provided on its outer surface with an inner reflecting covering A and and outer covering C of papier-mÔchÚ or like plastic material which fits closely up to the flange D of the reflector. The inner covering may be made, of white or coloured waterproofed paper or of a compound, which becomes plastic when heated, such as a non-inflammable celluloid known under the registered Trade Mark "Celastoid," which may be separated from the outer covering by an intermediate layer of paper. The inner and outer coverings may be of the same shape as the glass reflector, as shown in Fig. 2, in which case the inner covering rests only on the angles or crests of the prisms or ribs. or they may be a different shape, as shown in Fig. 5, so as to vary the distribution of light. The coverings may be applied separately or together. A layer of resilient material, such as asbestos fibre, may be arranged between the inner and outer coverings and it may form the uppermost part of the inner covering. The covering may be reinforced, particularly where it is curved inwardly, by means of strips bands, or one or more layers of textile or other material or by metal rings or frames spun to fit the exterior surface of the inner or outer covering and held in position by fingers or lugs engaging the flange of the glass reflector. The exterior surface of the outer covering may be treated with a waterproof enamel, paint or varnish, or otherwise decorated. In a modification applicable to a prismatic, ribbed or corrugated glass reflector the inner covering is dispensed with and the reflecting surface is formed by the outer covering which is arranged to form an air-tight and dust-tight joint at the top and bottom borders of the reflector, and may be treated with a heat-resisting pigment.
