Abstract

A cable reeling device comprises a fixed cassette 5 for storing the cable 3 and a winding device comprising driven 11 and driving 10 pulleys, an electric motor (not shown) connected to the driving pulley, an electronic regulator to maintain the output of the motor within a given range and two fairleads 7, one arranged to guide the cable between the pulleys and the other arranged to guide the cable from the pulleys to the cassette. The cable reeling device is especially suited for use in a lift truck to feed cable between the mast and chassis thereof.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Improvements in cable reeling devices The invention is intended to control the feeding of cable between a moving and a fixed element e g the mast of a lift truck and the chassis thereof The invention is illustrated in figures 1 to 3 and described in the following text.
Figure 1 is a general elevation showing the invention mounted to a typical lift truck, figure 2 is a view of the chassis-mounted components and figure 3 is a section through figure 2 on the line of the cable.
Referring to figure 1 camera 1 is preferably mounted on the moving mast of a lift truck and fitted with cable connector 2. Desirably the free end of cable 3 is fitted with connector 4 to mate with connector 2 Advantageously connectors 2 and 4 are so oriented as to align cable 3 with the direction of movement of camera 1.
Referring to figures 2 and 3, desirably cassette 5 is mounted on bracket 6 attached to the chassis of said truck. Preferably bracket 6 is extended clear of cassette 5 and carries fairleads 7a and 7b approximately in line with a hole roughly centrally located in cassette 5. Desirably bracket 6 is provided with mountings for motor 8 and lever 9. Preferably pulley 10 is mounted on the shaft of motor 8 while idler11 is mounted rotatably on lever 9. Preferably lever 9 incorporates integral springs 12 and is adjustable angularly so that idler 11 loads cable 3 into contact with pulley 10.
Advantageously cassette 5 is fitted with polarised connector 14 mating with connector 15 mounted on bracket 6.
As mast 2 is lowered cable 3 is reeled in by the rotation of pulley 10 by motor 8 and is fed thereby into cassette 5. Reeling out uses tension applied to the moving end of cable 3 by raising mast 2 to pull cable from cassette 5 against torque applied by motor 8 said torque preferably being controlled so as to optimise the tension in said cable.

Claims (1)
