Abstract

237,965. Marriott, R. L. May 3, 1924. Bristles, fixing; wire brushes.- Each tuft of wire bristles 3 is bent so that when inserted in the tube adapted to be cleaned it bears with its outer curved surface against the wall of the tube and the end portion of each tuft, as viewed from the end of the brush, overlaps the main portion of an adjacent tuft. The bristles are secured in groups each passed through two oppositely-situated holes in the brush stem 1 to form two tufts, the groups being fixed by means of a stake 9 driven through the centre of the groups in succession. The stake in diameter is about two-thirds that of the bore of the stem 1 and may have a head to form a closure for one end of the stem, or the latter may be closed on to one end of the stake after assembly of the brush. The stem may be formed with a screwed end 5 and a hole 4 for a tommy bar to enable it to be fixed to am extension rod, or a separate plug with a screwed end and a hexagonal enlargement may be secured to the stem. According to the Provisional Specification lengths of wires soldered together at one end may be threaded through pairs of holes in longitudinal lines in the brush stem, the loops of wires so formed being cut after the wires are secured, and the wires being subsequently bent. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 22596/04.
