Abstract

A headboard that can be adjusted to provide individual backrest support when needed, such as reading or watching TV in bed. The backrest panels slide down and forwards of the headboard and rest on the mattress. Runners are located at each side of the panel 3. The panel is slotted into the runners, at each side and can swivel forwards and downwards to provide varying angles of support. When not in use the panel is simply pushed back into an upright position and secured by a retaining clip. The headboard is fixed to the bed by using standard mounting splints.

BED HEADBOARD/BACKREST. This invention relates to a Bed Headboard that can be adjusted to provide back support.

Bed Headboards are traditionally of rigid construction, simply providing a decorative trim at the head end of the bed/mattress, at right angles to it.

This invention provides, at low cost and easy fitting, a headboard that with little effort can be individually adjusted to provide back support whilst reading, watching TV, or sitting upright. The headboard is comprised of two panels, or one for a single bed, that can be pulled out from the bottom. The top of the panel, located in runners, can be slid down with the bottom edge resting on the mattress.

The panel can then be set to the desired angle.

Claims (3)

1. CLAIMS 1. A bed headboard with backrest, whereby a rigid support angle can be provided by means of adjustable panels or panel (double or single bed) attached to the main headboard structure.
2. 2. The device would be frabricated in essentially the same manner as a conventional headboard, but would be formed with one or two rectangular panels. They pull out from the headboard at their lower edge and slide down via swivel runners, located on the upper corners of the panel. The panel rests on the bed mattress and can be adjusted to various angles of support. When not in use they are simply retracted back into the headboard base onto a locating spring clip.
3. 3. The illustrations show the most common type of padded headboard, but this principle can be applied to headboards of varying styles and materials.
