Strings for musical instruments, especially steel strings for violins, have the threading end thickened to prevent it from catching in the hole in the peg or in the back of the peg-box. The thickening may consist of a helix of wire, or, as shown in Fig. 2, of a sleeve 2 the end of which is rounded as at 3.
