Abstract

A barbecue comprises a firebox 5 for fuel, a grill area 7 and means 2, 3 for supporting and rotating a plurality of spits and/or skewers 8, 9. A motor 4, which may be battery or mains powered, is provided to power the rotating mechanism. The height of the components 2, 3 which support and rotate the spits and/or skewers 8, 9 is adjustable. The barbecue preferably has shelves 11, 12 on which cooking utensils can be supported, and legs 6. Wheels may be mounted on two of the barbecue legs 6 to facilitate its mobility. Butterfly nuts are used to hold the spit rotating and supporting components 2, 3 in place. The turning mechanism for the spits and/or skewers may consist of a series of cogs (see figure 10).

Description

BARBECUE The invention relates to a barbecue of a type which includes a metal box for housing charcoal, legs, skewers and spits of various sizes, two units to enable the skewers and spits to turn, two end plates to support the skewers and spits while rotating, butterfly bolts to hold components in position, a battery or mains operated motor, two wheels, barbecue is to be of free standing structure, which may be located anywhere convenient and a grill.
Such barbecues are well known but suffer from the disadvantage that one must stand over the barbecue and manually keep turning the food over so that it does not burn.
An object of this barbecue is to provide a barbecue which one can enjoy at a party, different types of meat, vegetables and other food can be put onto skewers and spits and will keep rotating so as not to burn and the food will cook evenly.
Accordingly this invention provides a barbecue with one or two motor devices, components that will turn all the skewers and spits and legs attached to the metal box housing charcoal, legs may have wheels to be easily mobile, butterfly nuts for holding components into position, a grill and shelves may be connected to hold cooking utensils, etc.
Preferably the barbecue would be of a metal construction, the skewers and spits of stainless steel and the motor of a plastic material able to withstand heat, but it may instead be made from a combination of materials or anything that may be desired. The box, while preferred to be rectangular, could be of a different shape. While cogs are preferred in the component turning the skewers and spits, a chain or any other mechanism may be used to rotate them. The barbecue if desired can be fitted with shelves to an end or underneath or both, to hold cooking utensils, etc.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 Shows a front view of the barbecue once assembled.
Fig. 2 The two components which will be attached to the metal box which will rotate the skewers and spits.
Fig. 3 Shows the two components for supporting the skewers and spits Fig 4 Shows one of the battery or mains operated motors Fig. 5 Shows the metal box for the positioning of the rotating and supporting components.
Fig. 6 Shows the legs.
Fig. 7 Shows a preferred grill Fig. 8 Shows the skewers with handles Fig. 9 Shows the spits with handles Fig. 10 Shows the inside of the preferred mechanism to rotate the spits and skewers but a chain or other device may be used.
Fig. 11 Shows shelf to a side of the barbecue Fig. 12 Shows shelf fitted to underside of the barbecue.
Fig 13 Shows preferred butterfly nuts to be used to support and hold supporting and rotating components but another securing device may be used if required.
As shown in fig. 1 the barbecue assembled having skewers 8 and spits 9 a motor 4, battery or mains operated components 3 for supporting the skewers 8 and spits 9 components 2 for allowing the skewers 8 and spits 9 to rotate with legs 6 and the grill 7. figure 10 shows the preferred cogs to enable the skewers 8 and spits 9 to rotate. Fig 5 showing metal box to house charcoal and fig 11 being a shelf and fig 12 is a shelf, while fig 12 shows butterfly nuts to hold component 2 and component 3 into position.
The metal box sits on legs 6. the box IS filled with charcoal or any other burning material and could also be helped to heat up quicker by use of gas from a bottle-not shown. The legs 6 having wheels will enable it to be moved around freely.
As shown in fig 3 these components will support the skewers 8 and spits 9 while rotating is in progress Fig 5 shows metal box with attached components 3 which will support skewers 8 and spits 9 while rotating when they are placed in the holes of components 2. This will allow skewers 8 and spits 9 to rotate at the same time.
Fig 4 shows motor 4 which can be attached to component 2 and components 3 which will power them to rotate.
One may also grill burgers or other food not suitable for being on skewers 8 or spits 9 so a grill 7 is provided for this purpose. To hold cooking utensils and other cooked food, shelves 11 & 12 are provided
