Abstract

A flood guard including a fascia board 1, waterproof adhesive backed seals 4, 5 and a carry-handle 8, has two fitting options. The first option uses barrel bolts 2 and brackets 3 and the second involves the use of holes (6, figure 3) for the fitting of Cup Square bolts (7, figure 5) with wing nuts (9, figure 5). The guard may be made from plastic, wood or metal, or a combination of these materials.

Description

FLOOD GUARD The invention consists of a fascia board, waterproof adhesive backed seals and a handle. It can be affixed on most doorframes, with either barrel bolts or cup square bolts with wing nuts. Once attached internal flooding will be reduced.
Thousands of homes suffer from flooding either in a major or minor way. Personal belongings and family possessions are ruined. Sandbags are a hassle, can be hard to obtain and are not reliable. No one can be sure when or where a flood can occur. Just an hour of heavy rain can become extremely dangerous. Flooding cannot be prevented but loss should be minimised. Facts have shown that recently the UK has had the worst flooding in living memory. The object of this invention is to provide a guard that will minimise rainwater from entering the building through any non-watertight areas surrounding the door. Accordingly, this invention provides a guard which is easy to install, easy to carry and easy to store. It is also removable, durable, has various fitting options according to the different types of doorframes and is available in a variety of sizes. Preferably the guard is made of a fascia board including the waterproof adhesive backed seal and brass-carrying handle. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 shows the front view of the flood guard fixed to a wall that surrounds a doorway using fitting option A (barrel bolts and brackets). FIGURE 2 shows the back view of the flood guard using fitting option A. FIGURE 3 shows the front view of the flood guard fixed to a wall that surrounds a doorway using fitting option B (cup square bolts and wing nuts). FIGURE 4 shows the back view of the flood guard using fitting option B. FIGURE 5 shows a side view using fitting option B.
As shown in Figure 1, the fascia board 1 is fitted using the barrel bolt 2 option. The bottom seal 4 is attached along the bottom of the fascia board 1. The barrel bolts 2 are inserted into the brackets 3 which are attached to the wall surrounding the doorframe.
The bottom seal 4 must be sat firmly on the ground surface. The handle 8 is screwed on to the top centre of the fascia board 1. Figure 2 shows the reverse side of the flood guard. The fascia board 1, with handle 8, bottom seal 4 and a further two strips of the waterproof adhesive backed seals 5 on either side which will be in between the door frame and fascia board 1.
Figure 3 is exactly the same as figure 1 but replaces barrel bolts 2 and brackets 3 for the alternative fitting option, which allows Cup Square bolts 7 to be inserted through the front side of the fascia board 1 through holes 6 directly into the door frame.
Figure 4 is exactly the same as figure 2 adding four holes 6, two on each side of the facia board 1 directly inline with the doorframe. Cup Square bolts 7 go through holes 6.
You can see in figure 5 how the cup square bolts 7 go through the facia board 1, waterproof adhesive backed seals 5, into the doorframe and tightened with wing nut 9. Figures 1,2 & 5 give an example of how the guard would be attached to a doorway.
Both fitting options allow the guard to be easily installed and removed.
