Abstract

A refrigerated display cabinet having a glass front, includes a refrigeration unit (1) for cooling the cabinet which may be removed. The unit includes ducts (2) for passing air into the cabinet. An electrical connector is unplugged from a snap connector. The unit is removed by using a handle (5).

Description

Introduction This invention relates to a complete blown air cartridge refrigeration system specifically designed for a refrigerated glass display cabinet Background Refrigerated glass display cabinets are a well know, ubiquitous product. However, at present all refrigerated glass display cabinets have refrigeration systems that are integral to the structure of the display. On all cabinets it is possible to replace some of the components on site by means of lengthy and costly service calls. However, if a site is particularly busy it may not be possible to effect a repair on site, thus giving rise to a situation where the cabinet needs replacing for a minor component. Another issue is that once a display gets past 2 years old people tend to take the view it is more economical to replace the display rather than repair it.
Improvement on current status-quo This present invention means the removal of the need to send qualified refrigeration engineers to site. Couriers who simply change over the cartridge can attend all service calls.
The faulty cartridge is returned to the factory for inspection/repair. Main benefit being the higher cost item, i. e. the casework, is never compromised.
Explanation A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 Shows in perspective, the glass display Figure 2 Shows the section view of the counter with the cartridge detailed No 1 Figure 3 Shows the separation of the cartridge system (also photograph 1) Figure 4 Shows the cartridge fully removed form the display (also photograph 2) Figure 5 Rear view of the cabinet with the new cartridge installed (also photograph 3) With reference to figure 1, the refrigerated cabinet is enclosed in glass for maximum product vision and is chilled in accordance with the Guidance on Food Safety (Temperature Control) Regulations 1995 by means of a blown air refrigeration system.
In order to remove the refrigeration cartridge from the display both air ducts-2, and the deck plate-3 are first removed (figure 2). The electrical connection must then be
disconnected by unplugging the snap connector-4 (figure 5). The cartridge is then removed by pulling on the handle-5 (figure 3) until it is clear of the display.
To remount the new cartridge the above steps are carried out in the reverse order.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A refrigerated glass display with a complete detachable blown air refrigeration cartridge system.
  2. 2. A detachable system as claimed in 1. allows for easy of servicing on site and associated reduced service charges.
  3. 3. A detachable system as claimed in 1. allows for easy replacement in times of failure.
  4. 4. A detachable system as claimed in 1 can be carried out by untrained personnel hence reducing costs, and reduced down time.
  5. 5. At present it has become increasingly common for cabinets to be scrapped and replaced by new ones in favour of repair due to high service charges. This detachable system as claimed in 1. means it is increasingly likely cabinets will be maintained as the bulk of the cabinet cost is in the display, not the refrigeration system.
