Abstract

A ventilation fan uses a standard light socket in a lamp for power and control of the drive motor. The switching on and off of the fan is via the light's power switch or a remote control. Control of the rate of ventilation is through a range of exchangeable blades, some of which offer the ability to angle the blades. Additional directionality of the ventilation is achieved through angling the lamp as desired. The fan may include a clutch mechanism to reduce the danger of an object impacting the spinning blades, and the motor housing and the fitting may be separable.

Description

Portable Ventilation Fan This invention relates to a ventilation fan.
Such fans are used for ventilation mainly during the summer months, though the space needed to stand one makes their use sometimes difficult. During summer focused light, such as from an Anglepoise lamp, is often not required and so the lamp could be used to house, position and power a portable fan assembly.
Additionally it is envisaged that the device is fitted into ceiling lighting. This location for ventilation is favoured in hotter climates and by using a portable ventilation device it can be utilised for providing gentle ventilation, especially in the summer months.
According to current ventilation products on the market none make use of light fittings to hold and/or power the product. Products that combine ventilation and lighting are available, though these are conceived as dual products, in which neither the fan nor the lighting device is separable from the product as a whole.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagram, in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective the main features of the Portable Ventilation Fan.
Referring to figure 1 the devices comprises a fitting, a housing to hold the motor and control assembly and a set of blades.
To produce a stream of air, the light bulb is removed from a light and the Portable Ventilation Fan is inserted. The device's blades are adjusted, if necessary, to ensure they do not contact with the sides of the lamp and to modulate the airflow. Different blades can also be fitted to modulate the airflow from the device.
The fan is switched on by either using the lamp's power switch or using a remote control. The danger of an object impacting the spinning blades can be reduced b sing a clutch mechanism.
