Abstract
A fan unit which can be fitted into the bulb socket of an existing anglepoise or other type of desk lamp, replacing the bulb. The front safety guard (Fig. 6) of which can be removed and interchanged with differently sized guards to fit differently sized reflectors of various lamps. The guard is to have an integral handle for holding when filling into the lamp and a fine mesh or annular ring type of protector such that no part of the fan blades can be touched when fitting or operating the fan unit. The outer edge of the guard is to have an anti-vibration device comprising of either a bonded strip of shaped foam or a number spring steel or plastic clips both of which will centre the fan unit into the lamp reflector and prevent vibration. The operation of the fan unit is by means of the on/off switch of the lamp. <IMAGE>
Description
FAN UNIT
This Invention Relates to a Fan Unit.
Portable adjustable fan units are in use in most office environments and comprise of a multi-bladed fan driven by an electric motor and gearbox assembly, powered from mains electricity, complete with a safety guard and adjustable direction/speed controllers.
In summer, however these fan units are in great demand and according to the resources available to any company it is not always possible to supply each individual with these fan units.
According to the present invention there is a fan unit which comprises of a bulb type of bayonet fitting at one end, specifically to fit into the bulb socket of an existing anglepoise or other type of desk lamp.
The fan unit therefore uses the on/off switch of the lamp and power feed from the bulb socket for it S operational power.
A heat resistant PVC or other type of plastic moulded body is required to enclose an electric motor and gearbox and as a fixing for a removeable PVC or other type of plastic moulded or metal mesh safety guard, complete with a handle for installation into the lamp, such that no part of the fan blades can be touched whilst installing or operating the unit.
The safety guard is made removeable by either having fixing screws or sprung plastic/steel insets into the body of the motor housing.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIG.1 Shows the fan unit in perspective from the front.
FIG.2 Shows the fan unit in perspective from the back.
FIG.3 Shows the fan unit front elevation.
FIG.4 Shows the fan unit in part section.
FIG.5 Shows the fan unit rear elevation.
FIG.6 Shows the separate safety guard in perspective.
Referring to the drawings the fan unit comprises of :1. A safety guard.
2. A multi-bladed fan and drive shaft.
3. A motor/gearbox housing.
4. An electric motor and gearbox.
5. An electric bulb type bayonet fitting.
6. Anti-vibration foam bonded to the guard.
7. An installation handle.
In order to use the fan unit, simply remove the bulb from an existing anglepoise or other type of desk lamp and install the fan unit as you would a replacement bulb, using the installation handle to turn and lock the fan unit into the bayonet socket.
Claims (6)
1. A fan unit which can be introduced into the bulb socket
of an existing anglepoise or other type of desk lamp,
using thereflector of the lamp as a housing and the on/off
switch as a controller and power feed from the mains
electricity or other type of power supply, eg. battery,
2. A fan unit as claimed in claim 1. wherein a heatproof PVC
or other type of plastic moulded body is made to house
a motor and gearbox to drive a multi-bladed fan, and
to form a fixing for the safety guard by way of threaded
holes to receive fixing screws or moulded holes to
receive sprung plastic or steel clips moulded as part of
or added to the guard.
3. A fan unit as claimed in claims 1. & 2. wherein the power
is picked up from the lamp by means of a standard bulb
type of bayonet fitting screwed into the motor/gearbox
housing.
4. A fan unit as claimed in claim 3. wherein the rotary
motion of the fan blades is provided from an electric
motor through a gearbox and drive shaft.
5. A fan unit as claimed in claims 1. & 2. wherein there is
variably sized, removeable safety guard, complete with
integrally moulded installation handle and anti-vibration
foam strip surround or anti-vibration spring clips
around the guard rim giving a firm grip to the lamp
reflector.
The guard to be manufactured in various sizes to fit
differing sizes of lamp reflector, and to be interchangeable
with all fan bodies.
6. A fan unit substantially as described herein and with
reference to FIGS. 1-6 of the accompanying drawings.
