Abstract

The edge of a flood barrier 3 is mounted within a G-shaped channel framework 1 and pressed against seal 2 by a pressure device 4. The pressure device maybe mechanical or inflatable. Overlapping barriers with additional seals may be used.

Description

REMOVABLE FLOOD BARRIER.
Flood Barriers are a well known method of holding back excessive Water Levels.
One such application being a LOCK, being an enclosed space controlling water levels on Inland Waterway's, by way of gates and paddles.
According to the present Invention, there is provided a temporary barrier to Doorways and other openings to Domestic, commercial and other Buildings.
The barrier shall consist of a: G: shaped Box frame incorporating a replacement frame for the Door, Window etc, or a Sub Frame to be added to the existing Frame, and shall completely enclose the opening, i e Door Frames shall include a: G: box section threshold strip. The frame shall be fixed as a replacement for the removed frame and suitably sealed between the frame and the building. The sub frame shall be permanently fixed to the outer side of the existing frame and water proof seals fitted during fixing, The back of the: G: shall face towards the interior of the building. An Inflatable seal to be positioned in the box section. Access for a Board to act as a Shutter to repel the Flood Water's shall be allowed for and bolt's or other known fixing provided to deter the shutter from raising in the slot due to water pressure. The shutter can then be removed for the opening to resume it's normal function when flood conditions return to normal. When the board is inserted in the opening of the: G: the boxed seal shall be inflated sufficiently to equalise the pressure of the flood water's. Where a complete enclosure is required in an opening, double and overlapping shutter's to be used with an additional seal.
Materials used should be suitably durable to withstand water, the drying out and the varying conditions.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way Of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the Flood lock with the shutter and seals in place : - Figure 2 shows the back seal position: Figure 3 shows the shutter inserted : - Figure 4 shows the position of the pressure device.
Referring to the drawing the flood lock comprises a box frame 1/1 with seal 2. a shutter 3. and a pressure device.
In order to remove the shutter 3. from the box frame 1. release the Pressure from the pressure device.
To replace the flood lock in position the steps described above are carried out in the reverse sequence.

CLAIMS.
1. A temporary flood lock comprising a frame or sub frame so constructed to house a shutter and seals is permanently fixed and sealed to building aperture's.
The shutter, when inserted to be pressurised round all edges by inflation, mechanical or any other manner to create a water tight seal and thereby prevent flood water entering the building Depressurising allowing the shutter to be removed for normal use of the aperture, at a suitable time.
2. A flood lock as claimed in 1 where a frame and pressure system locks a shutter system to provide a water tight barrier.
