Description
BUMPER FIXING CLIP
The present invention relates to a fixing clip for fixing a bumper of an automobile to a vehicle panel such as a fender.
A fixing clip for a bumper is disclosed in Japanese Patent Application
Laid-open No. H7-329631. The fixing clip (not shown) is integrally molded component made of synthetic resin, and comprises a U-shaped sandwiching portion for sandwiching an end of a bumper, and a leg provided on a lower surface of the sandwiching portion and locked in a mounting hole made in a vehicle panel. The end of the bumper is inserted in the U-shape of the sandwiching portion and then, the leg is locked in the mounting hole of the vehicle panel, thereby fixing the bumper to the vehicle panel. The bumper can be fixed to the vehicle panel with a simple structure.
However, when the end of the bumper is sandwiched by the sandwiching portion, the end is sandwiched between upper and lower two sandwiching pieces defining the U-shape. Thus, when the leg of the clip is locked in the mounting hole of the vehicle panel, a resilient locking piece formed on the leg is merely be locked to a hole edge of the mounting hole resiliently, and there is an adverse possibility that the bumper is not sufficiently fixed.
The invention includes bumper fixing clip comprising, a bumper formed with a through hole, a U-shaped sandwiching portion for sandwiching an end of the bumper, and a leg which is inserted into a mounting hole of a vehicle panel and opened if a screw is threadedly engaged, wherein the leg is formed on one surface of the sandwiching portion, a screw inserting port which is in communication with an inner space of the leg on the same line is formed in the other surface of the sandwiching portion, the sandwiching portion sandwiches the end of the bumper and in this state, a tip end of a screw is threadedly engaged with the leg through a through hole of the bumper from the screw inserting port.
The bumper fixing clip may further comprise a pair of temporarily resilient pawls to be locked in an edge of the mounting hole of the vehicle panel, and each of the temporarily resilient pawls may intersect an inserting direction of the bumper into the sandwiching portion.
Further, the bumper fixing clip may further comprise rotation restricting portions for respectively abutting against angle portions of the mounting hole of the vehicle panel, and the rotation restricting portion may be separated from the leg. In addition to this, the rotation restricting portions may be extended and tip ends thereof may be connected to each other.
The end of the bumper is sandwiched by the sandwiching portion and in this state, one screw is threadedly engaged with the leg through the through hole of the bumper from the inserting port, and the leg inserted into the mounting hole of the vehicle panel is opened outward. With this operation, the fixing clip itself is reliably and strongly fixed the vehicle panel, and the bumper is also reliably and strongly fixed to the vehicle panel at the same time.
Further, since one of the temporarily resilient pawls intersects the inserting direction of the bumper into the sandwiching portion, the fixing clip does not fall out from the mounting hole of the vehicle panel due to the weight of the bumper during the temporarily fixing operation of the fixing clip. Since the rotation restricting portions separating away from the leg abut against angle portions of the mounting hole, the rotation of the fixing clip itself is reliably restricted even during the temporarily fixing operation or the threadedly engaging operation of the screw. Further, the tip ends of the rotation restricting portions are extended and connected, the extended and connected portion function as an inserting guide with respect to the mounting hole of the vehicle panel, and the rotation restricting ability is enhanced.
In order that the invention may be well understood, an embodiment thereof,
which is given by way of example only, will now be described with reference to the drawings, in which : Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a bumper fixing clip according to an embodiment of the invention;
Fig. 2A is a sectional view taken along a line IIA-IIA in Fig. 1;
Fig. 2B is a sectional view taken along a line IIB-IIB in Fig. 1;
Fig. 2C is a sectional view taken along a line IIC-IIC in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view showing the bumper fixing clip fixed to a vehicle panel by a first fixing means;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing an end of the bumper inserted into a sandwiching portion of the bumper fixing clip;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing the bumper fixed to the vehicle panel by second fixing means;
Fig. 6 is a sectional view from the side of the clip in the state shown in Figure 5; and
Fig. 7 is a sectional view showing four base portions of a frame wall of the clip abutting angle portions of a mounting hole of the vehicle panel.
The bumper fixing clip of the embodiment has been developed as a clip to be fixed to a synthetic resin fender which is a vehicle panel, and is an integrally molded component made of synthetic resin.
A basic structure of this embodiment comprises, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a
U-shaped sandwiching portion 1 for sandwiching an end of a bumper having a through hole, and a pair of opening pieces 2 which are legs opened if a screw is inserted into a mounting hole formed in the fender and threaded into the mounting hole. The pair of opening pieces 2 are formed on one surface of the U-shaped sandwiching portion 1 with a given inclination angle. A frame wall 3 continuously surrounding an outer periphery of a closed portion of the opening pieces 2 with a given inclination angle.
A pair of temporarily locking resilient pawls 4 are formed on opposite sides of the frame wall 3 through slits 5. Each of the temporarily locking resilient pawls 4 intersects an inserting direction of an end of a bumper 11 into the sandwiching portion 1.
Four base portions 3a of the frame wall 3 continuously connected to one surface of the sandwiching portion 1 are separated from the pair of opening pieces 2 and the pair of temporarily locking resilient pawls 4, and are abutted against angle portions of a mounting hole of a fender 12. This design functions as a rotation restricting portion for reliably restricting the rotation of the fixing clip itself. All the base portions 3a extend toward tip ends of the opening pieces 2 and thus, the tip ends are connected to each other to form the frame wall 3.
An insertion port 6 for a screw is formed in the other surface of the sandwiching portion 1. The insertion port 6 is in communication with an inner space of the pair of opening pieces 2 on the same line. Therefore, the screw insertion port 6 is also inclined at a given angle like the opening pieces 2 and the frame wall 3.
When the bumper 11 of the automobile is fixed to the fender 12 which is the vehicle panel using the fixing clip having the above-described structure, the frame wall 3 and the pair of opening pieces 2 are inserted into an angled mounting hole 12a which was previously formed in the fender 12 while using the connected tip ends of the frame wall 3 as an inserting guide as shown in Fig. 3. At that time, the pair of temporarily locking resilient pawls 4 passes through the mounting hole 12a while being bent, and resiliently locked to an edge of the mounting hole 12a. At that time, the temporarily locking resilient pawls 4 can be inserted easily due to a slant 4a which is inclined toward an inserting direction of the resilient pawl 4. By the operation up to this point, the clip itself is temporarily locked to the fender 12.
Next, as shown in Fig. 4, the end of the bumper 11 is inserted into the
U-shaped sandwiching portion 1. In this case, the end of the bumper 11 is inserted I
such that the screw insertion port 6, a through hole 11 a of the bumper 11 and an interior of the pair of opening pieces 2 coincide with each other. In this state, a weight of the bumper 11 is received by the sandwiching portion 1, but since the pair of temporarily locking resilient pawls 4 intersect the inserting direction of the bumper 11 into the sandwiching portion 1, the fixing clip can withstand the weight of the bumper 11 and thus, the fixing clip is prevented from falling out from the mounting hole 12a.
Thereafter, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the tip end of a screw 13 is inserted from the insertion port 6, and the tip end is threadedly engaged into the pair of opening pieces 2 from inside through the through hole lla of the bumper 11. The pair of opening pieces 2 are locked to the edge of the mounting hole 12a while opening
outward, and the fixing clip is strongly fixed to the fender 12. At the same time, the bumper 11 is strongly fixed to the fender 12. Thus, the fixed state of the bumper 11 is maintained.
When the screw 13 is threadedly engaged, the four base portions 3a of the frame wall 3 whose tip ends are extended and connected abut against the angle portions of the mounting hole 12a as the rotation restricting portion, thereby restricting the rotation of the clip itself. Therefore, the rotation of the clip itself is reliably restricted. The rotation is likewise restricted also when the fixing clip is temporarily locked to the mounting hole 12a of the fender 12. Although the shape of the fender 12 is taken into account and the opening pieces 2, the frame wall 3 and the insertion port 6 are inclined with respect to the U-shaped sandwiching portion 1 in the above embodiment, the present invention is not limited to this, and the opening pieces 2, the frame wall 3 and the insertion port 6 may intersect the sandwiching portion 1 at right angles.
