Abstract
236,698. Seversky, A. Procofieff-. May 12, 1924. Valves actuated indirectly. -In an arrangement for transferring liquid fuel from a supply aircraft 47, Fig. 1, to a receiving aircraft 49 by means of a hose pipe 15 depending from the upper aircraft and delivering into a receiver 34 fitted on the lower aircraft, the lower end 16 of the pipe 15 is fitted with an automatic rotary discharge valve 22, Fig. 5, normally maintained in the closed position as shown by a leaf spring 25 bearing against a pivoted semicylindrical flap 23, which operates the valve through spur wheels 19, 20. When the end 16 enters an inner pipe 35 of the receiving apparatus, Fig. 7, the flap 23 is rotated into contact with the pipe and the valve 22 opened to allow the passage of the liquid fuel. The pipe 35 is arranged in a tube 34 and communicates with the receiving tank 61 through a hollow trunnion 43b which allows the inclination of the receiver to be varied. A collapsable funnel 45 supported by pivoted stays 39 and erected by sliding a ring 42 on the tube 34 serves as a means for guiding the lower end of the pipe 15 into the pipe 35.
