The width of the portions 26, 27 are arranged in relation to the overall width of the frame so that when the first and second frame parts 18, 19 are moved as close together as possible, i.e. so that at least one of the front inner end surfaces 20a, 21a, and the rear inner end surfaces 22a, 23a abut, the outer end surfaces 18a and 19a thereof are coplanar with surfaces 28, 29 of the wall 10 when the wall is of a desired thickness, in this example 99 mm. The front surface parts 20b, 21b, preferably lie in a common front surface, and the rear surface parts 22b, 23b, preferably lie in a common rear surface, as seen in the figures. At least one and preferably both of the common surfaces are planar.
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
A recess 30 is provided in the front portion 20 of the first frame part 18 in the form .of a rectangular section groove and is adapted to receive a plurality of first fasteners 31 spaced apart longitudinally of the frame part at a desired spacing, which in the present example are wood screws such as No. 10 x 70 mm. In addition the groove 30 is adapted to receive a rib part 32 of a rebate element 33 which, except for the rib 32, is of right parallopiped configuration except for a groove 34 provided in an abutment surface 37 thereof adapted to receive a tongue part of a conventional schegel seal made of cellular plastic. The rebate element 33 is disposed to overlie the inner end surfaces 20a, 21 a, of the front portions 20, 21 and conceals the junction between the front frame part 18 and second frame part 19.
The rebate portion 33 is secured in position by any suitable means such as PVA adhesive and/or a mechanical fastener or fasteners such as a pin(s) or screw(s). The surface 37 provides an abutment surface against which, in the present example, the door 13 abuts the schegel seal providing sound and thermal sealing therebetween.
Architrave elements 38 are provided to bridge the gap between the end of the wall 10 and the frame element 16. The architrave elements 38 are secured to the frame by any suitable means such as by an adhesive and/or pins or other fasteners.
In the present example the door assembly is not fire resistant.
The door assemblies shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5 have a fire resistance of 60 minutes In these figures the same reference numerals have been used for corresponding parts as are used in Figure 2.
Referring now to Figure 3. In this example the door frame and wall are of the same dimensions as that illustrated with reference to Figure 2, except that the leaf is thicker. In the present example, the first frame part 18 is provided with a rectangular groove 50 in which a plurality of second fasteners 51, spaced
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
apart longitudinally of the frame part at a desired spacing, are engaged in counterbored apertures at the base thereof to facilitate securing of the first frame part 18 to the wall 10. A suitable intumescent strip 52 is provided in the groove 50. In other respects the frame and wall are as described in connection with Figure 2.
If it is desired to adapt the frame 12 described with reference to Figure 3 for use with a wall 60 of greater thickness than the wall 10 described in connection with Figures 1 to 3, for example a wall 112 mm thick, then the first and second parts of the frame 18, 19 are moved relative to each other to the position shown in Figure 4 where the outer end surfaces 18a, 18b are coplanar with the surfaces 61, 62 of the wall 60. In addition, a plurality of third fasteners 63 are received in each of a plurality of counterbored holes 64 formed in the reduced thickness part 27 of the rear portion of the second frame element 19 to facilitate connection of the second frame element to the wall 60. The fasteners 63 are spaced apart longitudinally of the frame part at a desired spacing.
Referring now to Figure 5 when it is desired to associate the frame with a wall of still greater thickness such as the wall 70 shown in Figure 5 which has, in the present example, a thickness of 125mm the first and second frame parts 18, 19 are moved further relative to each other so that the outer end surfaces thereof are coplanar with the surfaces 71, 72 of the wall 70. In this case the second fastener 31 extends only through the front portion 20 of the first frame part 18 and a separate fastener indicated at 63 extends through an opening 73 of the rear portion 23 of the second frame element 19.
In the embodiments shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5 the rebate element shown at 33 in Figure 2 is of slightly greater width in the embodiment shown in Figure 3 and is of the same width as shown in Figure 3 and the embodiment shown in Figure 4. In the embodiment shown in Figure 5 the rebate element is of greater width than in Figures 3 and 4. The width of the rebate element is
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
chosen so as to provide adequate coverage of the gap between the first and second frame parts whilst at the same time providing adequate fire resistance.
In all embodiments, the fasteners 31, 51, 63 as appropriate are each concealed from view by either the rebate portion, in the case of the fasteners 31, and 63 when provided, or the intumescent strip 52, in the case of the fasteners 51 when provided.
In the present specification "comprise" means "includes or consists of and "comprising" means "including or consisting of'.
