Abstract

A brush 11 comprises a set of bristles 12 and connection means 13 to connect the bristles to the end of a finger X. Preferably the connection means is an elongate hollow tube 13 with an open end (15, Fig 1) to allow finger access to the tube which may taper. Three slots 13C (13A, 13B, Fig 1) may be provided along the tube to allow for expansion when accommodating fingers of a different size. An adhesive 14 may be used to secure the bristles to one end of the tube in an angled (32, Fig 3) or in-line 12 arrangement relative to a fingertip. Preferably the tube is moulded from a plastic material. The brush may be used for painting detailed or restricted access areas and may also be used to apply cosmetics or adhesive.

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Novel Brush The present invention relates to a novel brush, particularly for painting.

Most paint brushes consist of a handle and a set of bristles at one end of the handle. The brush is held in the hand by the handle when applying paint to a surface. When painting detailed areas it can often be difficult to hold the brush steady using the handle, and access to certain areas can also be restricted due to the length of the handle.

The invention seeks to provide a brush which is particularly useful for painting detailed areas. According to the present invention there is provided a brush, said brush having a set of bristles, and connection means to connect the bristles to the end of a finger.

Preferably the connection means is an elongate hollow tube with the set of bristles at one end thereof, said tube having an open end at the other end to allow a finger to slide into the tube. The tube may be tapered and have one or more elongate slots therein to allow the tube to expand to accommodate fingers of different sizes.

The connection means may connect the bristles to a finger so that the bristles are in line with the tip of the finger or may connect the bristles to a finger so that the bristles are angled to the tip of a finger.

Embodiments of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure I shows a perspective view of a first embodiment, Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the embodiment of Figure I on a finger, Figure 3 shows a perspective view of a second embodiment, Figure 4 shows a perspective view of the embodiment of Figure 3 on a finger.

Referring to Figure I there is shown a brush 11. Brush I I has a set of bristles 12 secured to one closed end of a hollow tapered tube 13. Bristles 12 may be secured to the end of the tube by any suitable means, such as by an adhesive 14.

Tube 13 may be moulded from plastics material and has three elongate slots 13A, I 3B, I 3C. The end of tube 13 remote from the bristles has an open end 15. Slots 13A, I 3B, I 3C extend along the tube 13 from open end 15.

As shown in Figure 2, the finger X of a user can be inserted into the open end 15. The slots 13A, I 3BJ 3C allow the tube to expand to accommodate the size of the finger and so the tube forms a tight fit on the finger.

The tube 13 thus forms a connection means to connect the bristles to the end of a finger. It will be seen that the bristles are generally in line with the tip of the finger.

In use the brush I can be used to apply paint to a surface. It has been found especially useful in painting detailed areas.

Referring now to Figure 3 there is shown a brush 31 very similar to that of Figures I and 2. Thus brush 31 has a set of bristles 32 secured to one closed end of a hollow tapered tube 33, and bristles 32 may be secured to the end of the tube by any suitable means, such as by an adhesive 34.

Again, tube 33 may be moulded from plastics material and has three elongate slots 33A,33B,33C. The end of tube 33 remote from the bristles has an open end 35. Slots 33A,33B,33C extend along the tube 33 from open end 35.

As shown in Figure 4, the finger Y of a user can be inserted into the open end 35. The slots 33A,33B,33C allow the tube to expand to accommodate the size of the finger and so the tube forms a tight fit on the finger.

The tube 33 thus forms a connection means to connect the bristles to the end of a finger. It will be seen that the bristles in Figures 3 and 4 are generally angled with the tip of the finger as the closed end of the tube 33 is angled.

In use the brush 31 can be used to apply paint to a surface. It has been found especially useful in painting detailed areas.

The brush of the invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the connection means could be other than a tube. Also the brush may have uses other than for applying paint, i.e. to apply cosmetics or adhesive.

Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims

CLAIMS 1. A brush, said brush having a set of bristles, and connection means to connect the bristles to the end of a finger.
2. A brush according to claim 1, wherein the connection means is an elongate hollow tube with the set of bristles at one end thereof, said tube having an open end at the other end to allow a finger to slide into the tube.
3. A brush according to claim 2, wherein the tube is tapered.
4. A brush according to claim 3, wherein the tube has one or more elongate slots therein to allow the tube to expand to accommodate fingers of different sizes.
5. A brush according to any preceding claim 4, wherein the connection means connects the bristles to a finger so that the bristles are in line with the tip of the finger.
6. A brush according to any of claims I to 4, wherein the connection means connects the bristles to a finger so that the bristles are angled to the tip of a finger.
7. A brush substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
