Abstract

Packaging for a food product comprises a plurality of product containers 11 each defined by an endless wall element and having an outer retaining means 15 to maintain the containers as a mutually-packed array. The array of containers constitutes a circular ring or shallow cylinder and the individual containers comprise sectors of a circle. The packaging may include a unitary base 12 with an upstanding rim or flange 13 and a lid 14 with a downwardly-depending flange. The packaging may be formed from PVC or CPET, and may be used in a method of filling containers with food product, the method comprising preparing a food product on a base and urging the array of product containers downwardly from above whereby the walls of the containers cut through the product so that, with the lower edges of the product containers in contact with the base, each container has therein a portion of product, the outer retaining means holding the array of containers together until required. Alternative methods in which the containers are filled from above are disclosed. The array may instead be rectangular. The food product may be a gateau, pie or pizza.
