Abstract

A glazing reinforcer (6) is formed two profiled rigid sections screwed together, which grip both outer edges of the aperture in a door (1), and the glazing panel (2). A frameset (3) is attached to the reinforcer (6) possibly by using the same screw. Such a design enhances security by ensuring the glazing panel (2) is retained even if the frameset (3) is removed. The reinforcer (6) can be made form stainless steel.

Description

2364088 Patent Application Glazing Re-Inforcer This invention relates to a
security glazing system in an external door.
External residential doors are frequently glazed using a two part polystyrene glazing cassette which holds the glass to the door and is screw fixed from the internal face, through into the back of the external part The security of the property can be compromised if the glazing cassette is attacked and broken off from outside, thus removing any purchase which the screw fixing had, enabling the glass unit to be pushed in, thereby gaining access.
According to the present invention, the re-inforcer profiled rigid sections are first introduced into the aperture before glazing, which grips the edges of the aperture, whilst holding the edges of the glass and the aperture The same screws holding the glazing cassette pass through the profiled section, also and thereby secure them.
Therefore, when the external face of the cassette is attacked, even if removed entirely, the glass remains fixed firmly in position.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:- Figure 1 shows in perspective a glazed door.
Figure 2 illustrates in cross sections the current method of glazing.
Figure 3 illustrates the section of re-inforcer.
Figure 4 shows the re-inforcer in position beneath the fiameset Referring to the drawing the glazed assembly includes the door ( 1), glass ( 2), frameset ( 3) which are weathersealed (not shown) and secured together by screw fixing ( 5) from the inside face, into the receiver ( 4) on the external section.
In order to glaze the door aperture, the re-inforcer ( 6) is first cut to and positioned into the aperture, on all four sides The glass ( 2) is sealed to the external half of the frameset before that assembly is offered up into position from the outside elevation of the door aperture The internal half of the frameset ( 3) is then located into position from the internal elevation.
Self tapping screws ( 5) are then inserted through the pre-made holes in the internal frameset, through the re-inforcer and into the back of the external half of the frameset ( 4).
When all the screws have been driven home, they are countersunk to allow a plug to be inserted and thus conceal their location.

Claims (3)

Claims
1 A glazing re-inforcer comprising a profiled rigid section to grip both outer edges of the aperture in a door, whilst simultaneously holding the glass to the internal frameset section once secured by screw fixing.
2 A glazing re-inforcer as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the profiled section is of stainless steel.
3 A glazing re-inforcer as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein screws fixings pass through to locate to at least one section of glazing framrneset.
