Abstract
A plant pot accessory for repotting and supporting plants is formed in one-piece of plastics material and comprises a base portion 12 for seating on the inside bottom of a plant pot P and an integral stem portion 14 which projects upwardly from the base portion. Preferably the base portion is dish shaped and is formed with an array of perforations 13.
Description
2363960 Plant Pot Accessory The present invention relates to an accessory
for plant pots.
The growing of plants is a popular pursuit and I have now devised an accessory which is of simple and inexpensive construction but which provides a number of advantageous uses.
Thus, in accordance with the present invention, there is provided a plant pot accessory which is formed in one-piece of plastics material and comprises a base portion for seating on the inside bottom of a plant pot and an integral stem portion which projects upwardly from the base portion.
Preferably the stem portion is of a length to project to a point substantially level with, or slightly above, the top of the plant pot The arrangement permits the projecting top end of the stem portion to be gripped in order to pull the accessory from the plant pot, complete with the root ball, in the event that the plant requires re-potting.
Preferably the stem portion is hollow or of tubular form: in this case a stake may be inserted into the top of the stem portion, to provide support for a growing plant.
Preferably the base portion is circular in plan view, to f it on the bottom of the plant pot and locate within the circumferential wall of the pot.
Preferably the base portion is of an inverted dish shape Preferably the base portion is formed with an array of perforations, to allow for drainage of water if the plant is watered through the soil in the pot.
Preferably the stem portion projects vertically upwards along the axis of the base portion.
Preferably the outer surface of the stem portion is tapered.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a view of an accessory, in accordance with the present invention, being inserted into a plant pot; FIGURE 2 is a side view of the accessory shown in Figure 1; FIGURE 3 is a vertical section through the accessory; FIGURE 4 is a sectional view through a plant pot, showing the accessory in position within the plant pot; and FIGURE 5 is a cut-away view showing the accessory in position within a plant pot which has subsequently been filled with soil.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown an accessory for use in a plant pot P The accessory 10 is formed in one-piece from plastics material and comprises an inverted, dish-shaped base portion 12 and an upwardly-projecting, tubular stem portion 14 The base portion 12 is circular and is formed with an array of perforations 13 The stem portion 14 extends vertically along the axis of the base portion 12 and is slightly tapered.
The accessory is arranged to be inserted into the plant pot P so that its base portion 12 seats on the bottom of the pot and fits close to the circumferential wall of the pot, at its bottom Also, the stem portion 14 projects to a point substantially level with the top of the pot P or, as in the example shown, just above the top of the pot Once the pot P is filled to its normal level with soil S, as shown in Figure 5, the stem portion 14 projects significantly above the soil level.
It will be appreciated that a plant growing in the pot P may be watered through the stem portion 14 if desired If watered through the soil, the perforations 13 serve for drainage If support is required for a growing plant, then a stake may be inserted into the top of the stem portion 14.
If it becomes necessary to re-pot the plant at any time, then the projecting top end of the stem portion 14 may be grasped in order to pull the accessory up out of the pot, the accessory at this time supporting the entire root ball.
