Abstract

An agricultural machine or vehicle has an operator cabin (2) which is mounted on a chassis (1) via at least one rail (3). The rail or rails (3) extend in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle and the cabin (2) is freely movable on the rails (3) between the front and rear of the vehicle.

Description

2361673 VERSATILE AGRICULTURAL MACHINE This invention relates to
multi-purpose agricultural machines, such as a tractor, which are capable of operating equipment mounted in front of, behind or on the chassis of the machine.
Multi-purpose agricultural machines with cabins displaceable between at least two positions to facilitate operation of auxiliary equipment are available. Prior art exists which incorporates a releasable cabin lifted vertically from its mounting plate then rotated through 180 degrees about a vertical axis and set down onto an alternative mounting plate. The drawback with this prior art is that the unidirectional tyres commonly used on such machines no longer rotate in the intended direction during forward motion once the cabin is rotated through 180 degrees, thus impairing traction.
The current invention overcomes this problem by incorporating a nondetachable sliding operator's cabin movable longitudinally using a rail or rails along a substantial portion of the machine, thus allowing unidirectional tyres to operate in the intended fashion during forward motion in all configurations.
The main feature of the invention is an operator's cabin able to slide longitudinally along one or more rails mounted on top of the chassis running in a front-to-rear direction from the extreme front of the chassis to a position in between the rear wheels.
Other features:
The engine, main gearbox and transfer gearboxes (hereafter referred to as the powertrain) are located underneath the top deck of the machine chassis within the machine wheelbase to maintain an uncluttered load space and aid vertical and horizontal weight distribution.
A clamping mechanism ensures that the cabin remains in the desired position during use.
The range of cabin movement is such that the operation of front mounted, rear mounted, on-chassis mounted and fifth-wheel mounted auxiliary equipment is possible.
There are no visual interruptions between the operator and implements in all configurations.
At the forward extent of cabin travel, the cabin protrudes the front of the' machine allowing even weight distribution across both axles when carrying equipment on-chassis.
2 A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 shows cabin configuration for most general rear-mounted applications, for example ploughing.
FIGURE 2 shows cabin configuration for front-mounted equipment, for example grasscutting equipment hedge/verge trimming equipment and fifthwheel trailer coupling.
FIGURE 3 shows cabin configuration for on-chassis mounted equipment, for example tankers.
FIGURE 4 shows low-mounted powertrain in side view.
FIGURE 5 shows low-mounted powertrain in plan view.
The preferred embodiment of the current invention (Figure 1) provides for an agricultural machine, such as a tractor, incorporating a chassis 1, cabin 2, which is freely movable within limits longitudinally along the chassis by means of two guide rails 3 permanently mounted to the chassis positioned either side of the longitudinal machine centreline.
Figure 2 shows cabin 2 positioned for front-mounted equipment, also fifthwheel attachment 4 to be positioned within each guide rail 3.
Figure 3 shows cabin 2 in extreme forward position to allow maximum onchassis carrying capacity.
Figure 4 shows powertrain to be wholly within the chassis 1 beneath the chassis platform 5. The power unit 6, power take-off gear unit 7 and gearbox 8 are shown.
Figure 5 additionally shows positioning of fuel tank 9 laterally offset from engine centreline adjacent to power unit 6.

  1. CLAIEMS
    A versatile agricultural machine comprising a chassis incorporating one ormore rails mounted parallel to the longitudinal machine centreline with an operators cabin permanently mounted to, but movable along, the said rails in a longitudinal sense, maintaining angular orientation of the cabin relative to the longitudinal machine centreline.
