Abstract
A housing 1 has an upper chamber 2 for unfiltered liquid, a proprietary filter element 7, and a lower chamber 3 for filtered liquid. Means are provided on the upper and lower chambers to allow the attachment of water bottles (10 and 11, figure 2). A valve 4 is provided to enable air to pass from the lower bottle to the upper bottle during water flow in the opposite direction. Two caps 5 and 6 are provided to retain water within the housing when not connected to bottles. The caps are permanently attached to the housing via straps 8 and 9. The two chambers are separable to allow access to the filter. A number of adaptors may be provided to allow attachment to different types of bottle screw thread. The housing may have an indicator to determine the life of the filter element.

Description
Portable Water Filter This invention relates to a portable water filter unit. Water filters are commonly used in the home or working environment for the purification of water and usually comprising of a fitter cartridge which is placed inside a hopper which in turn are then placed inside a jug. Water is then put into the hopper and trickles through the cartridge and into the jug.
However, typically they are too large to be used as portable water filters because the hopper and jug hold between one and two litres of water each.
Therefore the invention is a smaller unit which allows two standard proprietary bottles to be attached.
According to the present invention the filtration unit consists of a two part body containing one or more water filter cartridges and a valve to avoid entrapment of air. The top and base of the unit contain couplings which are designed to take low cost disposable bottles that serve the purpose of providing the unit with a container for unfiltered liquid and filtered liquid.
Figure 1 shows a sectional view of the unit with a filter cartridge, caps and without bottles attached.
Figure 2 shows a sectional view of the unit without caps and with bottles attached.
The unit is made up of a seven part construction. The upper chamber assembly for unfiltered liquid 2, the chassis 1, and the lower chamber assembly for filtering liquid 3. The housing chassis 1 contains one or more proprietary filter 7 and the valve 4. It also provides means 8 & 9 for retaining caps 5 & 6.
Fig. 2. shows the fitter unit completely assembled but without liquid. The bottle 10 for containing unfiltered liquid is attached to the upper housing assembly 2 and the bottle 11 for containing filtered liquid is attached to the lower housing chassis 3.

Claims (1)
- Claims1. The unit is a portable water filter.2. The unit has facilities to attach bottles allowing water to run from one bottle, through the water filter unit and into the second bottle.3. The water filter unit will hold a proprietary water filter. 4. The water filter unit will hold a proprietary water purification filter cartridge for use in third world countries. The water filter unit has a valve to allow air to pass from the second bottle into the first bottle as the water runs in the other direction. The water filter unit has two caps to fit into the holes for the drinks bottles allowing water to stay within the water filter unit, keeping the filter cartridge wet.The caps also act as dust caps. The two caps are attached to the water filter unit to avoid being mislaid. The unit has two chambers that are removable for access to the water filter cartridge and for cleaning. The water filter unit may have adapters for different types of screw threads. The water filter unit may have an indicator to show the life of the filter cartridge.6.7. 8.9.10.11.
