Description
2359844 THE FLOODGATE SYSTEM THIS INVENTION RELATES TO THE FLOODING OF
1-10[JSES AND OTHER PROPERTY WHETHER USED FOR DOMESTIC PURPOSES OR OTHERWISE, DUE TO AN OVERFLOW OF WATER FROM A RIVER OVERFLOWING, OR BURSTING THE BANKS OF THE RIVER, MELTING ICE OR SNOW, EXCESSIVE RAINFALL, OR OTHER CAUSES.
AT THE PRESENT TIME IF AND WHEN A FLOODING DOES OCCUR THE MOST USUAL METHOD OF DEALING WITH THE RISING LEVEL OF WATER IN RELATION TO DOMESTIC AND OTHER PROPERTY, IS TO PACK SANDBAGS AND SUCHLIKE IN FRONT OF A DOORWAY OR ENTRANCE, OR OTHER PLACE OR OPENING WHICH IF LEFT UNATTENDED WILL CAUSE DAMAGE OR INCONVENIENCE.THIS METHOD AND SIMILAR METHODS WILL SLOW DOWN THE INGRESS OF WATER BUT WILL NOT STOP IT COMPLETELY.
WITH THE PRESENT INVENTION IT IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE OR FIT A BARRIER OR GATE, EITHER AS A PERMANENT FIXTURE, OR AS A TEMPORARY MEASURE, OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH, WHICH IS WATERTIGHT OR WATERPROOF, TO DOORWAYS, WINDOWS, DOORWAYS TO BASEMENTS AND CELLARS, AIRGRATES, AND ALL OTHER DOORWAYS, EXITS, APERTURES WHICH IF LEFT UNATTENDED WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PROPERTY OR CONTENTS.
IT IS ENVISAGED THAT A WATER PUMP MAY BE INSTALLED, USING AN INDEPENDENT SOURCE OF POWER, TO PUMP OUT OR EJECT WATER WHICH MAY HAVE ENTERED THE PREMISES FROM OTHER UNCONTROLLABLE MEANS.
-P>' T HE FLOODGATE SYSTEM IS A METHOD OF PREVENTING FLOODWATER AND SUCHLIKE RISES IN LEVELS OF WATER WHICH MAY OCCUR ON A REGULAR BASIS, OR WHICH MAY OCCUR PERIODICALLY, OR WHICH MAY BE EXPECTED TO OCCUR SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE, FROM ENTERING PROPERTY OR PREMISES, WHICH MAY BE DOMESTIC HOUSES, SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, SHOPS, OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF PROPERTY WHERE THE OWNERS OR OTHERWISE REQUIRE TO PROTECT THEIR PROPERTY OR CONTENTS.
IN AREAS OF EXPECTED FLOODING, WHICH CAN AND DOES OCCUR ON A REGULAR BASIS, USING THE FLOODGATE SYSTEM IT IS NOW POSSIBLETO FITA BARRIER OR GATE TO A DOORWAY, WINDOW OPENING, AIRGRATE, OR OTHER OPENING OR APERTURE, TO PREVENT THE INGRESS OF WATER OR OTHER SUBSTANCES, AND SO PREVENTING DAMAGE TO CARPETS AND OTHER FIXTURES AND FITTINGS, WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE OCCUR.
THE FLOODGATE SYSTEM IS A SERIES OF WATERTIGHT OR WATERPROOF BARRIERS, GATES, AND SUCHLIKE FIXTURES AND FITTINGS, DESIGNED TO PREVENTFLOODWATER FROM ENTERING PROPERTY AND PREMISES.
IN THE EVENT OF WATER OR FLOODWATER ENTERING THE PROPERTY OR PREMISES, WHICH MAY BE CAUSED BY BURST PIPES OR OTHER UNCONTROLLABLE FACTORS, IT IS ENVISAGED THAT A WATER PUMP MAY BE INSTALLED USING AN INDEPENDENT SOURCE OF POWER, AND SO KEEPING DAMAGE TO A MINIMUM.
8 THE FLOODGATE SYSTEM IS A BARRIER OR GATE A WHICH IS FITTED TO A DOORWAY D, OR A WINDOW OPENING F, SHOWN IN FIGS. 1 - 11 OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS OR OTHER OPENINGS OR APERTURES, IN DOMESTIC AND OTHER SITUATIONS, IT MAY BE OF A ONE PIECE CONSTRUCTION, AS SHOWN IN FIGS 4, 5, 6, OR IT MAY CONSIST OF TWO OR MORE PARTS, AS SHOWN IN FIGS 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11, THE BARRIER OR GATE A MAY BE SCREWED OR BOLTED IN POSITION B, OR A QUICK RELEASE TYPE OF FIXING MAY BE SUPPLIED, SO THAT THE BARRIER OR GATE MAY BE STORED, BUT READY FORIMMEDIATE USE, OR IN THE CASE WHERE TWO OR MORE PARTS ARE USED TO MAKE THE BARRIER OR GATE, THEY MAY BE FIXED IN A SIMILAR WAY BUT MAY BE HINGED AT EACH SIDE H, OR AT THE CENTRE OR OTHER JOINING POINT, USING THE LATTER ME THOD IT MAY BE POSSIBLE TO LEAVE THE BARRIER OR GATE IN POSITION TO BE USED AS AND WHEN REQUIRED, BY FOLDING TO ONE SIDE OR BOTH SIDES.
IN ALL CASES WHEN USING THE FLOODGATE SYSTEM A WATERTIGHT OR WATERPROOF SEAL C IS PROVIDED ON ALL POINTS WHERE REQUIRED, INCLUDING WHERETHE BARRIER OR GATE IS FASTENED TO BRICKWORK, STONEWORK, AND OTHER SURFACES, HINGES OR OTHER TYPE OF JOINTS, IT MAY BE NECESSARY ON IRREGULAR SURFACES TO PROVIDE A SPECIAL OR PURPOSE MADE TYPE OF SEAL.
