Abstract
235,892. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabsieken. June 18, 1924, [Convention date]. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. - An anti-cathode cooled materially by radiation is situated within, but insulated from, a metal part of the container, this part being cooled by water or otherwise. In one construction this metal enclosure 11, Fig. 1, is highly insulated from both electrodes, and is connected to earth, the high voltage being equally divided across the two insulating sections, which consist of glass vessels 4, 10. A tungsten anticathode 1 may be carried by rods 2 attached to a cup 3 sealed to the upper glass vessel 4. The lower glass vessel 10 is provided with a stem 7 holding pillars 8 which support a focusing sleeve 6 for the plane spiral anti-cathode 5. A cooling- jacket surrounds the metal enclosure 11, which may be of chrome-iron, and is fitted with a window 12. In another construction, the metal enclosure 22, Fig. 2, surrounds both the anticathode 20 and the straight cathode filament 21, and is constricted at 23 between these electrodes so as to confine the electron stream to a part of the anti-cathode. In this case the R÷ntgen rays issue through a cup 27 sealed to the metal enclosure. One end of the filament is connected to the metal enclosure, the other filament conductor being sealed through the glass cup 27. The apparatus may be very highly exhausted or may contain helium at a pressure of 0.01 mm. of mercury.
