Abstract

235,774. Hennig, A., and Anker-Werke Akt.-Ges. Nov. 18, 1924. Variable-speed ratchet gearing.-The feed in a buttonhole sewing-machine is automatically reduced to space the barring stitches closer together than the side stitches by reducing the stroke of the ratchet elements 19, 20 driving the feed-cam 18. This is effected by shortening a lever-arm 6 in the system of links and levers 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, 17 through which the driving-shaft 3 actuates the ratchet device. The eccentric rod 5 is pivoted' to the disc 6 rotatably mounted on a slide 8, a block 11 slidable in a slot in the disc being pivoted to a radius link 12 to which in turn is pivoted the link 13. The slide 8 is displaced against the action of a spring to vary the effective length of the lever arm 6 by an adjustable cam 36 acting through a bell crank lever 29. The feed may also be varied by manually rotating the ecentric pivot mounting 33, 34 of thelever 29.
