Mincing.-In a crushing, shredding, hashing, and like machine of the type comprising rotary beaters which sweep through the spaces beneath the teeth of a co-operating abutment, the beaters are carried on detachable arc-shaped plates extending longitudinally of the beater-drum and plain segmental detachable spacing plates are fitted between the beater-plates. The machine casing consists of lower and upper parts 10, 11, Figs. 2, 3, and 4, secured together by their abutting flanges 12, 13, the lower halves 16 of the end bearings of the beater-shaft 17 being integral with the side walls of the lower half 10 of the casing. The upper halves of the bearings consist of light caps 18 held in place by bolts 19 and steadied by projections 20 on the part 10 of the casing. The segmental beater-plates 30 and intermediate spacing-plates 31 are secured by bolts 32 to out-turned circumferential flanges 28, 29 on end-plates 26, 27 keyed to the shaft 17. The heads 33 of the bolts are received in recesses in the plates 30, 31, and the adjacent faces of the plates 30, 31 may fit closely together. The beater-teeth 34 on the plates 30 have flat radial impact faces 35 and are elongated to the rear with a curved outer surface 36. The abutment 39 with teeth 41 similar to the teeth 34 is secured at its ends by bolts 40 to beds 38 adjacent openings 37 in the side walls of the lower half of the casing. The teeth 41 have flat impact faces 42 which are radial to the shaft 17. The material to be treated is fed through a conduit 14 and engaged between the impact faces 35, 42, the broken material being delivered through a conduit 15. The machine is particularly applicable for reducing animal carcases for the extraction of fat or for the manufacture of chicken food or manure.
