Abstract

235,667. Clyno Engineering Co. (1922), Ltd., and Booth, A. G. March 28, 1924. Arrangements of hand-actuated gear for operating change-gear.-The centrally-disposed changespeed gear is operated from the side of the vehicle by means of a rod or shaft F pivotally connected at its inner end to the gear-box lever D and connected at its outer end to the vehicle frame so as to turn about a horizontal longitudinal pivot. Where the gear-box is carried by the front end of the torque tube B, as shown, and is connected to the frame by a ball-joint C, the outer end of the rod F slides in a socket G pivoted on a longitudinal axis on a frame bracket H to allow for movements of the gear-box relatively to the frame. The main part of the rod F is in line with the pivot of the gear-lever D. The hand-lever J is pivotally connected to the rod F. In a modification the rod F, instead of being bent at its inner end as shown, is straight and is connected by a universal joint to a coaxial rod which slides in the gear-box and carries the gear-lever D. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention may be applied to vehicles in which the gear-box is fixed to the frame.
