Abstract

A garage door 5 has guides 10 which engage in tracks 9 and door movement is prevented by bolts 11 which are pneumatically driven by cylinders 4 to obstruct the guides 10. A handle 1 acts on a master cylinder in communication with the cylinders 4 to both extend and retract the bolts.

Description

Description
The invention relates to an extended locking system for garage doors of the up and over types. The secure locking of garage doors from the inside is preferable from an aspect of security, rather than a padlock which can be forced or broken. As many garages and industrial premises are left unattended, locking the doors from the inside is preferable.
Essential Technical Features According to the present invention, there is provided at the back of each door, two pneumatically driven cylinders. Each fitted to two mounting brackets,, which are secured to the inside of the door frame. The locking cylinders are positioned at each side over the door guide rails so when the master cylinder is operated, the locking cylinder rods will trap the garage door runners in the down position. This will lock the garage door down. A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure I Shows the general layout of the pneumatic pipes, locking cylinders and remote master cylinder.
Figure Shows door in locked position.
Figure 3 Shows door in unlocked position.
Figure 4 Shows assembly drawing of locking cylinders, mounting brackets and mounting position on door frame.
0.
Page Two Referring to Figure 1.
If the master cylinder handle I is pushed down. The locking pneumatic pipes 2 will have a positive pressure in them. The unlocking pneumatic pipes 3 will have a negative pressure in them, which will make the locking cylinder 4 push out the locking rods 11, so locking the door 5. See Figure 2.
Pulling the master cylinder handle 1 will put positive pressure in the unlocking pneumatic pipes 3, and negative pressure in the locking pneumatic pipes 2, which will make the locking cylinders 4 retract the locking rods 11. So unlocking the door 5.
Referring to Figure 4.
The locking cylinders 4 are mounted inside the garage on the door frame 6, just above the door guide runners 10 when the door is shut. The pneumatic locking pipes and unlocking pipes are connected as shown in Figure 1, to a safe location where the master cylinder 1 is located.

Claims
1. The Extendable Lock comprises of cylinders mounted in such a way as to lock down an up and over garage door by way of an enclosed pneumatic pipe system operated from a remote master cylinder.
2. The Extendable Lock as claimed in I by way of using positive and negative pressure at the same titne to actuate the locking cylinders.
3. The Extendable Lock pneumatic circuit can be extended to operate extra locking cylinders on two or more doors by joining the pipework for the additional locking cylinders to the positive and negative pneumatic pipes at any point in the system.
4. The extendable lock pneumatic circuit can be extended to operate extra locking cylinders on two or more doors by joining the pipework for the additional locking cylinders to the positive and negative pneumatic pipes at any point in the system.

2. The extendable lock as claimed in 1. By using positive and negative pressure at the same time to activate the locking pneumatic cylinders.
3. The extendable lock as claimed in 1. Will actuate the locking pneumatic cylinders with one movement of the remote master cylinder. Conversely, locking pneumatic cylinders can be unlocked with one movement.
