Abstract

A messaging system using a doorbell or intercom system that allows a householder to leave a message for callers and for callers to reply to the message. The message may be of an audio or video format or a combination. An embodiment is given allowing the householder to vet callers, a further embodiment is given allowing messages to be stored and ordered by date, time or person.

Description
The 'Ansabell' concept for which I am seeking a patent comprises a doorbell or intercom that incorporates a recording and playback function. This will enable the householder to leave a message that is played back when a caller presses the doorbell button, and also allows the caller to leave a message that can be played back by the householder.
The recording function of the 'Ansabell' may be verbal, visual or both. Variations on the basic theme might include a monitoring function to allow the householder to vet which callers he decides to answer or a complex memory function to store and order messages by date, time, person or any other criteria.
As far as I know no doorbell or intercom system has a recording function such as that described above. Therefore despite the fact that most of the technology required for the 'Ansabell' already exists within telephone answering machines and intercom systems the amalgamation of the technologies does comprise a patentable concept.
The most basic 'Ansabell' system comprises a wall mounted exterior unit and an interior control panel. Both units have a microphone and speaker to record and playback audible messages. Other units requiring visual playback require cameras and monitors. It is possible to imagine an infinite range of different specifications, however, it would be impossible to list every possibility and permutation therefore I only seek to patent the principle concept of the addition of a recording function to a doorbell or intercom system.
Figures 1 and 2 on the attached pages illustrate an example of how the front end of a basic "Ansabell" may look and what the functionality may be.

2.9 Button to record message. To be depressed whilst the householder speaks into the grill.
Procedure The householder records a message by pressing the record button 2.9 and speaking into the grill 2.1. The ease with which this message may be recorded means that it can be updated frequently. Prior to leaving the house the householder presses the On/Off button 2.2 which causes the indicator light 2.2 to come on and switches on the messaging system. When a caller presses the doorbell 1.2 the message recorded by the householder is played out of the exterior grill 1.1. The caller may then leave a message by pressing the exterior record button 1.3 and speaking into the exterior grill 1.1. This whole exchange may or may not be heard within the house depending on the volume setting of button 2.3. When the householder returns the messages light 2.4 will blink to indicate that a new message has been recorded and he may play it back by pressing button 2.5.

Claims
1. A doorbell, intercom system or other device of similar purpose that incorporates the facility for a householder(s) and caller(s) to leave messages for one another. Messages may be verbal, visual or both.
2. A device such as that described in claim 1 that enables a householder to vet callers i.e. to identify callers without having to acknowledge their own presence.
