Abstract

A door intercom system comprises exterior (figure 1) and interior (figure 2a) units, encased in either plastic or metal casings. The exterior unit, which is placed on the exterior of a house, near the door, contains a microphone, microprocessor, sub miniature speaker and battery compartment on a printed circuit board (PCB) with the necessary firmware (figure 1d). The interior unit, which may be powered from the exterior unit contains a sub miniature speaker and a storage facility and may contain a microprocessor on a PCB, also with the necessary firmware (figure 2c). The units may be interconnected by a wired or wireless link. The system provides visitors with a greeting message and enables them to record messages for absent homeowners.

Description

The Answering Machine Doorbell (AMI)) - B. Carter Overview The product
consists of two units. The first unit contains the more complex circuitry and electronics and is placed on the exterior of the house by the door. The second is the interior unit meant for the homeowner consisting of just the necessary functions.
They are linked by either a wireless connection or alternatively wiring which is not nearly as recommended.
The functions for each of the units are as follows: Exterior -A record hinction enabling the visitor to record their message. This will be easy to understand and be of a good quality.
- A stop recording "'unction which could either be achieved by having the rec/stop function in one meaning pressing in and holding would recorded and releasing would finish the recording. Alternatively the stop button could be a separate button which would be clearer but less simple in terms of electronics.
- A mandatory bell button which is be pressed as you would any regular door bell. It is connected to the interior unit to create the sound to hear.
- A clear area to speak into i.e. where the microphone and speaker is located.
- Included into either the recording function or as a separate function, there needs to be a facility to be able to record greetings in the case that the system has been activated and there needs to be a response to the bell.
The casing is of weather resistant material.
Interior - A playback device to review messages and listen to them.
- A separate delete button to have the ability to delete individual messages if required.
- An on/off button to activate the answering machine button in the case that if you are not in you can leave a message or when the bell is rang your greetings message will be played.
- There is a good quality sub miniature' loud speaker to listen to messages and be able to be heard when the button for the bell is pressed.
These two units are powered by a 9v battery contained in the exterior compartment. In which case, the wires will give power to the interior unit as well meaning the need for an easy connection Both units are childproofand the exterior unit is proofed for outdoor conditions like heat and moisture.
