Abstract

Prefabricated panels meting at the roof ridge and resting on the walls of a building need only have prefabricated girder trusses at the gable ends, thereby maximising usable space within the roof void. Offsite prefabrication reduces the need for on - site skilled labour and under - roof safety equipment is not needed, since existing external scaffolding will suffice for erction of the roof.

Description

2355274 Interlocking Panelled Roofing Frame System For Buildings This
invention relates to a self supporting interlocking panelled roofing frame supported by girder trusses to allow for the fixing of an integrated weathering membrane, The framing minimises the supporting roof structure and maximises usable space within the roof void.
Roofs are the upper coverings of a building providing a weathered canopy. Traditionally roof structures are erected insitu utilising many component members to carry the weathering membrane.
As with all insitu construction methods these require both skilled tradesmen and substantial safety equipment around and under the roof structure. Therefore such erections are time consuming and expensive to complete.
This invention is low tech and reduces the amount of individual components onsite for the erection process by incorporating prefabricated panelled roofing frames this roofing system reduces the time on site and safety equipment under the roof during erection.
As this roofing system is prefabricated offsite semi skilled operatives can be used for the onsite erection process.
Accordingly this invention utilizes prefabricated girder trusses placed across the building, bearing onto the building wall place to transfer the roof loadings from the panelled roof frame to the building structure.
These girder trusses are placed either end of the panelled roofing frame at predetermined distances. Typically these interlocking panelled roof frames are installed in bays to form a complete roof.
The specific embodiment of this invention id described with ref erence to the accompanying drawings f igs. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and are indicative.
Fig 1 Plan showing external view of a interlocking panelled proof frame. Indicates sheathing membrane, 1, fixed To stabilize frame, recieve weathering membrane and protect the workforce during erection. Roof void ventilation is via continuous strip. 2. Service ventilation to ridge is via hole 3.
Fig 2 Plan internal view of interlocking panelled roof frame. Components of the frame fixed to sheathing are purling 2 4.7.8 rafters 9 and locking members 6. 9. To position frame over trusses during erection.
Fig 3 Section showes position of interlocking panelled roof frames together and to building structure 10.11.12.
Fig 4 Showes typical supporting girder truss to be positioned either end of panelled roofing frame. Metal hanger 13 fixed to truss supports purlin 7. Continuous battern or design hangers 14 relieve ceiling joists.
Fig 5 Longitudinal section of panelled roofing frame indicates girder trusses. 15.16. Typically an intermediate girder truss has a spacer block 17 to allow interlocking frames to hook over during erection. Also allows continuation of panels to form larger roof structures.
Fig 6 Isometric view of panelled roof frames over supporting girder trusses. Arrows indicate further bays of panels to form larger roofs for larger buildings.

Claims (6)

1. The system is low tech and easy to handle and can be erected by semi skilled "operatives.
2. A viable alternative to traditional roofing structures.
3. Prefabrication offsite reduces on site erection time.
4. Panelled roof frames hoisted over girder trusses and fixed negates any roof void working during erection, with attendance safety equipment.
5. The system is erected from external access scaffolds already there for the building structure.
6. Reduction of roof components and members maximises usable space within the roof void i.e room in roofs.
