Abstract

235,356. Macaura, G. J. May 2, 1924. Addition to 221,846. Vibratory treatment; electric appliances.-In a vibrator of the kind described in the parent Specification, wherein means for producing electric current are arranged to form part of the flywheel of the vibratory mechanism, the flywheel is arranged at the end of the apparatus remote from the applicator and in a plane inclined to the longitudinal axis of the apparatus, the gear casing is formed in two parts held together at the ends by caps &c., and a modified form of contact maker is employed. The rotary portion 2 of the dynamo-electric machine forms a flywheel and is mounted on a shalt 6 at an angles to the main shaft 10 of the vibratory mechanism, being connected thereto by a flexible shaft 9, or by crown and bevel wheels. The gearing 18 - - 22 transmitting the drive from the crank 15 to the main shaft 10 is enclosed in a case 14 which is formed in two longitudinal portions held together by means of a tube 11 and cap 16 which are secured by screwing or by frictional engagement. The lower end of the spindle 10 is slightly bent and is fitted with a revolubly mounted massage applicator 23. A plate y is secured to the flywheel casing for steadying the device when in use. The contact maker comprises a vulcanite disc 24, Figs. 1 and 5, formed with peripheral teeth 24a engaged by a pinion 25 operable by means of a milled head 26<a> to rotate the disc 24 on the spindle 6. A metal disc 27 carried by the disc 24 is formed with a resilient flange making contact with projections 28 on the rotor of the electric generator to shortcircuit the armature winding at a point in each cycle regulable by means of the milled head 26a. Current is applied to the patient through the massage applicator 23, and an electrode z connected to a contact 29 bearing against the metal disc 27 of the contact maker.
