Abstract
The plant support for use with a plant container such as a grow bag comprises a base with an outwardly extending arm. The arm is generally C-shaped and has upper and lower portions spaced apart by an intermediate portion. The upper arm portion extends over the base element, typically to the centre and includes retaining means typically in the form of an aperture, to retain, in use, a cane or similar elongate member. The intermediate portion of the arm may include an aperture to enable the plant support to be secured to a wall of a house or greenhouse. The base may be circular.
Description
2352608 TBE CANE SUPPORT The product being considered, as conceived by
Charles Pennington is The Cane Support. The concept calls for the manufacture and distribution of a specially designed deviceto be used in conjunction with plant grow bags and designed to help the plants grow straighter and stronger.
To accomplish this, The Cane Support would be configured as shown in the accompanying illustration (see Chapter Four, Portrayal). The device would be fabricated from iron and would be coated with a plastic finish for weather resistance, It would consist of a round base joined to a gently curved arm that would extend up and then form a horizontal bar sitting 20" above the base. The end of this bar would be formed with a hole near the end through which a conventional plant cane would be inserted. To utilise the device, the base would be positioned in the area where the user wishes to place a grow bag. This could range anywhere from small gardens and flats to expansive garden areas. Once positioned, the bag would be placed over the base such that the horizontal arm is positioned directly above the bag. A cane is then inserted down through the hole and into the bag, With this configuration, The Cane Support will serve as a functional aid to support a plant cane and thus help the plants grow in a healthier and straighter manner. Whether growing tomatoes or any other type of plant commonly used in conjunction with grow bags, the Cane Support will help any home gardener get his or her grow bag-based plants off to a better start and keep them amply supported as they grow.
CLAIMS.
1. A plant support for use with a container containing a plant growing medium, the support comprising a base element having an arm extending outwardly and upwardly therefrom; wherein the arm is generally C-shaped having upper and lower portions spaced apart by an intermediate portion; wherein the upper arm portion extends over the base element and includes retaining means to retain, in use, a cane or similar elongate member.
2. A plant support as claimed in Claim I wherein the upper and lower portions of the 10- arms are generally co-planar with the base element.
Claims (1)
- 3. A plant support as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2, wherein the baseelement is circular.4. A plant support as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the retaining means comprises an aperture in the upper arm portion.5. A plant support as claimed in Claim 4 wherein the aperture in the upper arm portion is substantially over the centre of the base element.6. A plant support as claimed in any one of Claims I to 5 wherein the intermediate portion of the arm includes an aperture to enable the plant support to be secured to a wall of a house or greenhouse.7. A plant support as claimed in any one of Claims I to 6 wherein the plant support is a unitary product formed by bending or folding a metal blank.8. A plant support substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
