Abstract
A mobile security apparatus comprises a wheeled trailer unit and a barrier means. The barrier means may be moved between a retracted position and a number of deployed positions and may include a fixed panel and a number of movable hinged panels such as gates attached to the side of the fixed panel. The apparatus may further include a platform means and be adapted for transporting passengers.
Description
1 2351108 1 "Mobile Security Apparatus" 2 3 This invention relates to a
mobile security apparatus, 4 more specifically the invention relates to a mobile 5 security apparatus, comprising a mobile security fence 6 incorporated within a trailer system, which can be 7 towed by a vehicle to a desired site. 8 9 At present, the only protection the police and armed 10 forces have when engaged in crowd control and riots is 11 their riot shields and helmets. These provide some 12 degree of protection, but the personnel using them can 13 become overwhelmed if the rioters are charging at them, 14 thus causing them to back down. is 16 Portable fencing is often used for crowd control, these 17 come in varying heights, and are only effective for 18 setting out walkways for marchers for example, but 19 these fences can be easily toppled when the crowd 20 becomes rowdy, thus having the potential of causing 21 injury to those it falls on. 22 23 Therefore at present, the devices available for crowd 24 control and protection of personnel, are somewhat 25 limited, they leave personnel exposed, heightening 2 1 their chance of injury, weakening their confidence, 2 hence lengthening the time a riot can continue. 3 4 It is an object of this present invention to obviate or 5 mitigate the above disadvantages, by providing a mobile 6 security fence incorporated within a trailer system 7 which can be towed by a vehicle to a desired site. The 8 device can be used in a variety of situations such as, 9 riot or crowd control, road blocking and slowing 10 traffic on motorways. 11 12 In a riot or crowd control situation it can both carry 13 the personnel to the area, then be rapidly deployed by 14 opening out the two gates to form a complete 180 degree is fence. This withholds the rioters and also protects the 16 personnel. Its heavy construction and design of 17 chassis, enables it to be secured from toppling, and 18 protects it from being rammed from another vehicle. 19 20 According to the present invention there is provided a 21 mobile security apparatus comprising a wheeled trailer 22 unit on which there is mounted barrier means, the 23 barrier means being movable between a retracted, 24 transport position and an extended, in use position. 25 26 Embodiments of the present invention will now be 27 described, by way of example only, with reference to 28 the accompanying drawings in which 29 30 Fig. 1 is a rear elevation of a mobile security fence 31 illustrating both gates fully opened; 32 33 Fig. 2 is a plan view of the mobile security apparatus 34 as Fig. 1; 35 36 Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the mobile security fence 3 1 with both gates fully closed; and 2 3 Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the mobile security 4 apparatus with one side panel fully removed.
6 Referring to the drawings and in particular Fig 1 and 7 Fig 2, a mobile security apparatus comprising a mobile 8 security fence incorporated within a trailer system 9 comprises a double chassis 7 sitting on closed coupled twin axles 8 with swivel suspension axle arms 5. Above 11 the double chassis 7 is an aluminium check plate stand 12 6 supported on a steel angled member 9 welded to the 13 chassis 7. The stand 6, provides excellent observation 14 i.e. well above head height. on the stand 6 there are provided two side steps 10.
16 17 At the rear of the trailer there are two steel columns 18 2. The columns 2, provide strength to the unit.
19 Spanning within the columns 2 is a palisade 3, with pale triple splayed top 4. On the rear face of the 21 columns 2, double hinges 24 are fitted and each 22 support gates 12 and 13 with palisade 22 and 23.
23 Cranked arms 14 are fitted at the top of the unit at 45 24 degrees and infilled with weldmesh 1. This is to provide further protection to personnel against stone, 26 bottles and debris throwing. Weldmesh 1 is also fitted 27 behind the rear palisade 3 and the gates 12 and 13.
28 Between the lower part of the rear palisade 3 and the 29 road level, a heavy duty rubber skirt 14 is fitted.
31 The unit can be towed by means of a tow coupling 11.
32 33 When is use, a gate 12 or gates 12 and 13, can be 34 opened at 90 degrees. These are locked open by one of two means, a main locking mechanism 15, comprising a 36 telescopic system using a hollow section allowing 4 1 freedom to slide over to lock or unlock by sliding 2 manually by means of two handles 25, or a secondary 3 option locking mechanism 16 comprising a diagonally 4 telescopic means, using the same steel sizes pin fixed at chassis and centre vertical of gate.
6 7 When the gates 12 and 13 are to remain closed during 8 transportation for example, they can be locked by means 9 of an upper locking arm clamp 17 and lower fixed drop bolt 18.
11 12 Portcullis dropping panels 19 can be lowered from the 13 bottom of each gate 12, 13 and are secured by spring 14 loaded drop bolts 20. The portcullis dropping panels 19 is provide further security as they prevent people from 16 crawling under the gates 12 and 13.
17 18 Personnel can be transported to the situation in the 19 unit, thus cutting down on the use of three or four vehicles.
21 22 The unit can be towed at a reasonable speed with for 23 example one of the gates 12, 13, open to slow traffic 24 on motorway lanes.
26 Front and rear hand rails are fitted to provide a means 27 for personnel to manoeuvre the unit after it has been 28 detached from the tow hitch.
29 31 The mobile security apparatus of this invention are 32 preferably provided with automatic braking system and 33 an anti - theft locking tow bracket 4.
34 The rear lights 21 are counter sunk into the rear 36 columns 2 and externally protected by a suitable means.
1 Modifications and improvements may be incorporated 2 without departing from the scope of the invention. 3 4 5 6 7 /home/mur/specs21/p21379- 6
