Abstract

A permanent vehicle immobiliser mounted on the floor of a motor vehicle comprises a swivelling metal plate 1 and a locking bar 2, when in use the plate 1 lifts and conceals the vehicle foot pedals. The locking bar 2 carries a lock 7 that is releasingly secured to an anchor plate 3 attached to part of the vehicle.

Description

IMMOBILISER FOOT PLATE This invention relates to a fixed immobiliser for any category of motor vehicle Current immobilisers operate on the principles of immobilising a vehicle steering system or isolating the vehicle ignition system. They are of either a mechanical or electrical nature. This device is a mechanical immobiliser which isolates the foot control pedals namely clutch, brake and accelerator on a conventionally geared vehicle or brake and accelerator on an automatic vehicle by preventing the use of the pedals the device effectively immobilises any vehicle to which it is fixed.

This invention comprises of an adjustable metal plate which is fixed to the floor of the vehicle by permanent bolts. The metal plate swivels to conceal the pedals of the vehicle.

The metal plate is locked into position by a locking bar. The locking bar is made of stainless steel. The locking bar fixes to anchor plate bolted to the tunnel of the vehicle.

This plate has a welded lug with a hole to accommodate the lock. The anchor plate end is bent over to restrict access to the keyhole.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawings in : Fig. 1 shows the components of the immobiliser Fig. 2 shows the adaptations for a left hand drive vehicle.

Fig. 3 shows the foot plate in the lock position covering the vehicles pedals Fig. 4 shows the foot plate in the unlocked position when the vehicle is in use Referring to the drawings for right hand drive vehicles Fig. l the immobiliser comprises of an adjustable plate which is fixed to the vehicle floor 8 by permanent bolts 4 and nuts 11.

Hollow fixing tubes 5 and 6 are welded onto the plate 1 to allow the plate to swivel on the bolts 4.

The locking bar 2 slides in hollow fixing tubes 5 and is attached to welded lock 7.

The anchor plate 3 is permanently bolted to the vehicle by bolts 9 to the vehicle tunnel 10.

The welded lock 7 secures to the anchor plate 3 through hole in lug 12 welded to the anchor plate 3. The end of anchor plate 3 is bent to restrict access to lock when in position.

Locking bar 2 is made of stainless steel.

For left hand drive vehicles the locking bar 2 is fitted into hollow tube 5 on right hand side of plate 1 See Fig. 2.

The adjustable plate can be covered with matching carpet to conceal it when not in use i. e. folded back

Claims

CLAIMS 1. An immobiliser which can be affixed to any vehicle consists of a plate and locking bar which when in place conceals the foot pedals restricting the use of the motor vehicle 2. An immobiliser uses a metal plate which moves on permanently fixed bolts through the vehicle floor 3. An immobiliser wherein the catchment is secured to the fixing plate which is permanently bolted to the vehicle 4. An immobiliser wherein the anchor plate has a bent end to restrict access to the lock to prevent use of a lockpopper device 5. An immobiliser in which the locking bar is made of stainless steel to make it more resistant to removal 6. An immobiliser in which the locking bar can be inserted on left hand side of plate or right side to accommodate for right hand drive/left hand drive vehicles 7. An immobiliser in which the lock is welded to the locking bar 8. An immobiliser which will fit a vehicle with automatic or manual gearbox 9. An immobiliser substantially as described herein with references to Figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows CLAIMS.

1 The immobiliser comprises of a anchor plate fastened to part of the vehicle with a foot plate attached to the floor such that it can be brought into position so as to cover the pedals, a locking bar attached to the upper in use edge of the foot plate, the locking bar carrying an integral locking device that is releasably fastened to the anchor plate.

2 An immobiliser as in claim 1 wherein the anchor plate has a bent end to restrict access to the locking device which secures the locking bar to the foot plate to prevent use of a lock popper device 3 An immobiliser as in any preceding claim in which the locking bar is made of stainless steel to provide optimum strength to make it more resistant to removal, rust resistance and better appearance 4 An immobiliser substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings.
