Abstract
A vehicle pedal guard comprises two metal plates hinged together and mounted in a motor vehicle so as to cover the foot pedals. As shown, the upper plate A covers the pedals and is held in place by a steel locking bar B having a lug to engage in the hinged plate and a slot to engage over a floor-mounted securing ring C, so as to prevent twisting. The plates may fold flat and may be covered with carpet.
Description
2338217 VEHICLE PEDAL GUARD The invention is a device which prohibits
anyone from using the Foot Pedals in Motor Vehicles.
The Mechanical Anti-Theft Devices oil the market at this moment in time and fitted to gear sticks, handbrake and steering wheels are not strong enough and can be easily removed.
This device consists of a hinged flat steel plate (Fig 1-A) which is bolted to the floor, directly under the foot pedals and hinges upwards to completely cover all three pedals (Fig 2-A).
A quick release locking bar (Fig 2-B) is inserted into the tipper plate (Fig 2-A) and twisted through 90' (Fig 313) and is then dropped onto a securing ring (Fig 2-C). A slot in the end of the locking bar (Fig 2-B) engages over the securing ring (Fig 2-C) and a Heavy Dtity Padlock or Locking Mechanism can be locked. The locking bar (Fig 2-B) cannot now be twisted, therefore the cover plate will not move forwards or backwards.
When the device is imlocked and locking bar is removed, the upper plate (Fig 2-A) hinges down and lies flat on the floor with sufficient floor coverage and does not compromise driving safety or comfort of the driver.
2_ It can be locked and unlocked quite easlily while sitting in the vehicle and the locking bar stored away. The tipper plate when folded down can be covered with carpet or rubber matting and is unobtrusive and concealed.
The device could be manufactured in various sizes to suit most vehicles regarding their size, age or model.
Only 4 bolts are needed, after drilling through the footwell the holes could be sealed and it takes approximately 30 minutes to install in vehicle.
FIG 1 FIG 2 FIG 3 SHOWS DEVICE FOLDED NOT IN USE SHOWS DEVICE WITH GUARD RAISED AND LOCKING BAR PUSHED IN SLOT AND ALREADY ROTATED BY 900 SHOWS QUICK RELEASE END ALREADY INSERTED IN UPPER GUARD AND ROTATED BY 900
Claims (1)
- A Vehicle Pedal Guard comprising of two hinged plates as a means to cover the foot pedals in a Motor Vehicle.2. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in Claim 1. with the lower plate fixed and upper plate free to move.3. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims with a slot in the upper plate to accommodate a removeable locking bar.A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims, which has a device on that locking bar to quickly lock it to the upper plate A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims, wherein that same locking bar at its other end has a slot which drops over a securing ring.6. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims, when locking bar is in its correct position, and a suitable locking device fitted through securing ring, the upper plate is now in its correct position to cover foot pedals.7. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims, when not m use the locking bar can be removed and stored. The hinged plate lies flat and would be covered with carpet or rubber matting.L.Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows A Vehicle Pedal Guard comprising of two hinged plates bolted to the floor of the Motor Vehicle in fTont of the Foot Pedals.2. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in Claim 1. with the lower plate fixed and upper plate free to move.3. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims with a slot in the upper plate to accommodate a removeable locking bar.4.A Vehicle Pedal Guard, which has a locking bar with two notches on that bar, that allows it to be quickly locked to the moveable upper plate by inserting the notched end and turning through 90' 5. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as in all previous claims, wherein that same locking bar at its other end has a slot which drops over a securing ring.6. A Vehicle Pedal Guard as previously claimed when the locldng bar is inserted into the upper plate, in the raised position, and turned through 90' and the other end of the locking bar is dropped over the securing ring, this would lock the raised upper plate to completely cover the foot pedals.A vehicle pedal guard as in all previous claims when it is not in use the locking bar can be removed and stored, the hinged upper plate can lay flat on the floor of the car, for safety reasons and would allow the driver free access to the foot pedals.
