Abstract
234,789. Forges et Ateliers de Constructions Electriques de Jeumont. May 27, 1924, [Convention date]. Oil switches.-The fixed and movable contacts D. C, Fig. 1 are situated at the bottom end of a funnel extension L of an oil-container N, and just above the level of oil in a pipe M with a flared end communicating with the closed expansion chamber K, which may be filled with inert gases, and communicate with the atmosphere through adjustable valves. The gases formed when the, air is drawn escape easily into the chamber K. In the developed form shown in Fig. 2, the movable contact is in the form of a hollow tube A containing a spring pressed subsidiary contact D of the stationary contacts D, B. On opening the switch, the tube A rises leaving the contacts C and D in contact until the pawl H keeping the contact carrying rod E is tripped by the bottom of the slot in the tube A through which the pawl projects when C snaps away from D. The chamber K is shown with adjustable outlet valve 0, filling tap T, baffles P and a coil j in a reservoir to heat the oil. The incoming current passes round horse-shoe shaped magnets d, d' and an overload, these compress the parallelogram g between them to trip the circuit-breaker.
