Abstract

An enclosure offering protection against noxious fumes, has a body 10 made of a flexible lightweight material. An entry point 13 has a sealable opening. Two foot holes 12 with elasticated seals are provided at the base of the enclosure. A compressed air device 14 is used to inflate the enclosure and provide a breathable atmosphere. Internal air pressure is controlled via a one way pressure release valve 15.

Description

INFLATABLE PROTECTION ENCLOSURE The invention relates to an inflatable protection enclosure.
Fire is a hazard that can occur in all types of buildings or structures. Precautions are taken to minimise this danger, but on a daily basis fires still occur causing risks to the occupants. Research shows that casualties during a fire are not caused by the heat source itself, but more frequently by the inhalation of noxious fumes created by the fire. It is this area of danger that we address with our invention.
According to the invention there is provided a flexible light weight enclosure, incorporating a sealable opening for the user to obtain entry. A device to expel compressed air will also be required.
Two specific examples of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a section through example A.
Figure 2 shows a plan of example A.
Figure 3 shows a section through example B.
Figure 4 shows a plan of example B.
Referring to the drawing there shows two examples of an inflatable protection enclosure. Figure 1 and figure 2 show example A-an enclosure capable of holding one user. Figure 3 and figure 4 show example B-an enclosure capable of holding one or more users.
The enclosure has a flexible lightweight body 10 which can be transparent, opaque, fire retardant, fire proof, fluorescent or part fluorescent or any combination of these.
Incorporated on body 10 there will be a sealable entry point 13. At the base of the enclosure there will be two foot holes complete with elasticated seals 12. A compressed air device 14 will be required to inflate the enclosure and provide a breathable atmosphere. To operate the enclosure the user must locate entry point 13 situated on body 10. Taking the compressed air device 14 the user climbs into the enclosure placing both feet into the appropriate foot holes 12. When inside the enclosure the user seals entry point 13 and operating the compressed air device 14 as instructed inflates the enclosure. A one way pressure release valve 15 will be incorporated into body 10 to control the correct internal pressure of the enclosure. The enclosure when inflated will provide a safe breathable environment against noxious fumes for a limited period of time. Repeated air top ups from the compressed air device 14 will extend the safe period of time within the enclosure. The user can choose to remain in a stationery position until rescued, or with the aid of the foot holes 12 move to a safer environment.

Claims (5)
