Abstract

The handle 7 of a "wheelie bin" refuse container is passed through the gap between the ends of hooks 2 and wall-mounted back plate 3, and is located within the curve of the hook. The shackle (6, Fig 1) of a padlock may then be passed through holes 5 in a hook to secure the handle and prevent theft. The hooks may be mounted on a single backplate as shown or be separate (Fig 3).

Description

WHEELIE BIN SECURING BRACKET This invention relates to a security device to prevent damage to wheelie bin type refuse containers when exposed to high winds or to prevent their theft.
Wheelie bins are a very good bulk rubbish containers, but have a tendency to topple over in adverse windy conditions and could be subject to theft for their inherent storage capacity and ease of manoeuvre.
The invention is designed to maintain the wheelie bin in an upright position during adverse weather conditions and to prevent its unauthorised removal when fixed and locked into position. The invention provides apair of fixing brackets, with, or without a connecting backplate, which can be made from metal, plastic or any other suitable material, and is designed to hold, and if required, to lock the wheelie bin usually located behind the lid hinges to any suitable adjacent vertical structure.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of examples with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 Illustrates the securing bracket with backplate and hooked sections with a padlock attached to one of the hooked sections.
Fig. 2 Illustrates a security bracket positioned over the handle of a wheelie bin.
Fig. 3 Iliustrates two separate securing brackets without the connecting backplate.
Referring to Figure 1 the wheelie bin securing bracket (1) consists of two hooked sections (=) and a backplate (3) which can be separate elements affixed to each other or be made complete in one manufacturing process to become a complete wheelie bin securing bracket (1) as illustrated. The backplate (3) has a number of holes (4) for screws, bolts or similar fastenings to secure the backplate (3) to a vertical structure.
Each hooked section (2) has two holes (5) to allow a long shackle padlock (6) to be used to restrain the wheelie bin handle or handles (7) when they are placed in the U of the hooked section or sections (2), thus preventing them from being removed from the securing bracket (1) when the padlock (6) is locked through the holes (5).
Figure 2 shows the securing bracket (1) has a backplate (3), the length of which is normally sufficient to allow both hooked sections (2) to pass over the wheelie bin handles (7) at each end.
The distance from the open ends of the hooked sections (2) to the backplate (3) is sufficient to allow the wheelie handles (7) to pass up and into the U of the hooked section (2).
The distance from the closed end U of each hooked section (2) to the holes (5) is sufficient to allow the wheelie bin handle (7) to be locked in, so that it cannot be removed until the padlock (6) illustrated in Figure 1 is removed from the holes (5).
Figure 3 illustrates a pair of securing brackets (8) without a joining backplate. This is necessary to accommodate the range of wheelie bins designed with several different types of handles which may proclude the use of a backplate with a fixed distance between the hooked sections (2). The desired restrainment will be obtained by suitable positioning of the securing brackets (8) of a type similar to those illustrated.
In this case each securing bracket (8) has a separate backplate (9). One of the backplates (9) and one of the hooked sections (2) may be affixed to each other or be made in one manufacturing process to make a complete wheelie bin securing bracket (8).
Each backplate (9) has holes (10) for screws, bolts or similar fastenings to secure the backplate'9) to an adjacent vertical structure. The wheelie bin securing brackets (8) are then positioned so that each hooked section (2) passes over an end of the wheelie bin handle (NOT SHOWN) so as to be secured when a padlock is passed through the holes (5) in a similar manner to that illustrated in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS CLAIM (1) A wheelie bin securing bracket will when affixed to a suitable vertical structure will hold wheelie bins in an upright position by use of there handles in adverse windy weather conditions.
CLAIM (2) A wheelie bin securing bracket as claimed in claim (1) will also help prevent the theft of wheelie bins in conjunction with a padlock placed through holes provided.
