Abstract

The latching device comprises a backplate for attachment to a wall and two rotating cam latches mounted on a spindle. The front edges of the latches are radiused such that when the lid hinge of a wheeled bin is pressed against them, the latches automatically open and close around the hinge. The bin is released by pressing a release lever and simultaneously pulling the front of the bin away from the wall. If the device is made from metal, snap-on or bonded-on plastic tips can be fastened onto the cams to provide a plastic contact area with the bin (sheet 2). Alternatively the components can be injection moulded in plastic, enabling the spindle (b1, sheet 3) to be temporarily compressed to facilitate assembly into the backplate sides (a, sheet 3).

Description

BINLATCH Description A latch device designed to provide a sturdy, quick release anchor point for the wheeled, plastic refuse bins, being supplied by refuse collecting authorities to dwellings, shops, offices etc; and comprising: (a) Backplate & two sides ( 1 piece ).
(b) Two latches on a spindle incorporating a lever (1 piece).
Sheet lof 3 shows the general design of the device in the closed position, and designates no specific material, i.e.
wood, metal or plastic; and also allows for right or left hand application.
Sheet 2 qf 3 shows that; if the device were to be made in metal, then, provision of a plastic to plastic contact area could be furnished by a simple snap-on or bonded-on plastic tip for the cams.
Sheet 3 of 3 shows the whole device made in just 2 injection moulded plastic components, consisting of a backplate and sides (a); and catch/release mechanism (b) comprising cams (bl), spindle (b2), and release lever (b3); the design of(b3) enables it to bye compressed temporarily to shorten spindle length to facilitate assembly into backplate sides.
Latch is fixed to house wall or other firm position.
When bin is pressed, handle-first, against latch the latch is opened and then closed automatically,holding the bin firmly against strong winds and could also incorporate a provision for secure locking.
When required, slight pressure on the release lever allows bin to be pulled away, clear of the device.

Claims (1)

1/ A latch device for holding MOB System domestic type 'Wheelie bins' firmly to a wall/post/fence etc.
2/ A latch device as in Claim 1 and being screwed to a wall etc. with the opening of the sideplate being set at the height of the lid hinge, the latch will open and then close holding lid hinge, thus bin also, firmly in possition.
3/ A latch device as in Claim 1 & and having a release lever, which, when given light pressure at the same time as pulling the front of the bin, allows bin to be drawn clear of latch.
