Abstract
A toilet-seat for animals comprises a seating-member (10) attached to a toilet-pan by means of a hinge (11) and provided with a generally-elliptical through-hole (12). A drainage-channel (13) extends axially relative to the hole (12). A removable tray (20) for litter, earth or the like is supported beneath the seating-member (10). The hole (12) is of small surface area relative to the surface area of the seating-member (10) so that the animal is supported by the seating-member (10) and matter excreted by the animal passes through the hole (12) into the toilet-pan.
Description
2338722 1 TOILET-SEAT FOR ANIMALS This invention relates to a toilet-seat
for animals, especially domestic animals such as cats and dogs.
So-called "cat-toilets" or "dog-toilets" are known per se and generally comprise either a disposable "litter-box" or a more permanent construction such as may be seen in public parks. Such known devices are adapted to be used entirely separately from sanitary conveniences provided for humans.
The applicant has now devised means whereby a domestic animal may be enabled to use a conventional toilet.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a toilet-seat suitable for use by a domestic animal, the seat comprising a seat-member adapted to be removably attached to a toilet-pan in association with a conventional toilet-seat and whilst so attached to be secured against movement relative to said toilet-pan and/or to said toilet-seat, the seating- member having a through-hole therein, said hole being of small surface area relative to the surface area of said seating-member, whereby the animal is supported by said seating-member and matter excreted by the animal passes through the hole into said toilet-pan.
Suitably, the seating-member is attached to the toilet-pan and/or to the conventional toilet-seat by means of one or more hinges. The or each hinge may, for example, be co-terminous with the hinge of the conventional toilet-seat.
1 2 Preferably, the seating-member and the conventional toilet-seat may be attached to each other and to the toilet-pan by means of a single hinge.
Alternatively, the seating-member may be attached to the toilet-pan andlor to the conventional toilet-seat by means of one or more clips. Suitably, the or each clip may be integral with the seating-member.
Preferably, the through-hole is substantially centrally placed relative to the seating-member.
To assist in training an animal in the use of a toilet-seat in accordance with the present invention, as well as to assist in containing any "leaks", a drainage-channel may be provided, extending from the throughhole.
Suitably, the drain age-channel extends axially relative to the throughhole.
Preferably, the throughhole is of generally elliptical shape and may suitably be placed relative to the seating-member so that the major axis of 1 the through-hole substantially coincides with the major axis of the seating-member.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the present invention, the seating-member further includes a tray adapted in use to be placed beneath the through-hole. Suitably, the seatingmember is provided with runners to support the tray. Alternatively, one or more clips may be provided on the seating-member to support (and to allow convenient emptying of) the tray. The tray may be, for example, of substantially planar transverse section. Alternatively, the tray may be of generally arcuate transverse section.
3 When used, the tray may contain a substance such as earth, sand, compost, litter or the like, to assist in training an animal to use the toilet-seat.
The seating-member may also include means to actuate a flush-mechanism for the toilet-pan. Such means may, for example, comprise a block or pad integral with the seating-member.
The seating-member can be made of any suitable material, such as wood, 10 metal (e.g. stainless steel), a ceramic material or a plastics material.
The present invention will be illustrated, merely by way of example, in the following description and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings (wherein like numerals denote like parts):
Figure 1 is a plan view of a toilet-seat according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention; Figure 2 is a view of the seat of Figure 1, in the direction of arrow A; Figure 3 is a view of the seat of Figure 1, in the direction of arrow B. A toilet-seat according to the present invention comprises a seating- member 10 which is removably attached to a toilet-pan (not shown) by means of a hinge 11.
4 The seating-member is provided with a generally elliptical through-hole 12. A drainage-channel 13 extends axially relative to the hole 12.
A removable tray 20 (to contain litter, earth or the like) is adapted to be supported beneath the seating-member by means of runners 21 and 22.
