Abstract

A levelling device for an electric hand drill comprises two liquid filled bubble levels 2,3 arranged on perpendicular axes. The device is incorporated into the main body 1 of a handle attachment 5 which can be fixed to a front portion (6, fig 2) of an electric drill by means of a clamping screw (4, fig 2). Each level has a bubble (9, fig 3) which can be aligned with a centralising ring (8, fig 3) to ensure that the drill is maintained at the desired angle.

Description

r. -1 DOUBLE AXIS DRILL LEVEL This invention relates to a Double Aids
Drill Level.
2338437 In the engineering field especially in the manufacture of machinery, jigs and tools, fixtures, robots, fabrications etc. it is a known practice to ask a colleague to assist you to line up the hand drill (electric) you are using to drill or ream or even tap a hole. In engineering this is very time consuming especially as two people are being used for one operation.
The present invention is designed to fit all makes of electric hand held drills. The diameter of the boss next to the chuck was standardised several years ago to accomodate a handle or to fit into a drill stand. The main body of the Double Axis DrillLevel has a 43mm bored hole and the edge of one side is split and a clamping screw runs at 90degree to the split and forms a method of clamping to the 43min dia boss on the front of the electric drill. On the same plane as this bored hole on another area of the main body is fixed into a machined register a 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' and at 90degrees to this is a second 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' is also fixed into a machined register. On the edge adjacent to the clamping screw is a standard 10 x 1.5 tapped hole, to accomodate a standard bought drill handle.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:Figure 1 shows in perspective the Double Axis Drill Level attached to an electric drill as it would be used.
Figure 2 illustrates the separation of the Double Aids Drill Level from an electric drill.
Figure 3 shows side view of Double Axis Drill LeveLwith 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' for vertical drilling, and top view of Double Aids Drill Level with a second 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' for drilling in the horizontal plane.
1 Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 Referring to the drawings the Double Axis Drill Level comprises of the main body 1. and the clamping screw 4. with an optional standard drill handle 5. to be used when larger drill bits are used and the handle will assist in stopping the electric drill from trying to twist if the drill bit should grab when drilling. The main body has a 43mm dia bored hole 7. which fits onto the standard dia electric drill boss 6. and when clamping screw 4. is tightened secures the Double Aids Drill Level to the electric drill boss 6.
Attached to the main body 1. are two 'Bulls Eye Circular Levels' 2. and 3. 'Bulls eye circular level 2. is secured with three allen counter sunk screws to a machined register the same diameter as the 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' on the side view face of the main body 1.
At 90degrees to the side view face the second 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' 3. is also fixed to a machined register using three allen counter sunk screws, to the top view face of the Double Axis Drill Level.

Claims (7)

1 A Double Axis Drill Level consists of a specially formed construction which can be fixed to a standard electric drill boss, by means of a 43min bored holed and clam screw.
2 A Double Aids Drill Level may be used as a normal level to determine if the item to be drilled accurately is level, before mounting on an electric drill.
3 A Double Aids Drill Level when fixed to an electric drill can show you via the bubble in the 'Bulls Eye Circular Level' if you are drilling a hole exactly at 90degrees to the pre determined level surface you are drilling, in the vertical plane.
4 A Double Axis Drill Level when fixed to an electric drill can show you via the bubble in the 'Bulb Eye Circular Level' if you are drilling a hole exactly at 90degrees to the pre determined level surface you are drilling in the horizontal plane.
A Double Aids Drill Level uses two standard bought Bulls Eye Circular Levels' and if one or either is broken can be replaced at small cost without the cost of the whole unit.
6 A Double Aids Drill Level has a 10 x 1.5 tapped hole to accept a standard handle for additional leverage when drilling larger holes.
7 A Double Axis Drill Level substantially as described here with reference to figures 1 - 3 of the accompanying drawings.
