Abstract

An attachment collar 2 is mounted behind the chuck on a portable electric drill. A spring-loaded rectangular-section sliding arm 4 extends forward from the attachment collar and carries an alignment plate with a square hole and a non-slip face. The alignment plate hole is centered on the drilling target spot and, as the drill is pushed towards the target, spring pressure an the alignment plate keeps the drill bit perpendicular to the target surface and in line with the target spot. <IMAGE>

Portable e@ectric drills are convenient tools which are used hand-held to drill holes in a variety of materials.

In operation, the face of the alignment plate is rested flat on the target surface. Forward pressure on the drill then causes the @l@ding ar@ to pass through the attachment collar allowing the drill bit to pass through the a@@gnment plate hol@ and into the target surface. However before the drill has contacted the surface the spring pressure on the sliding arm holds the alignment plate, the drill and the werking surface fi@m@y tog@the@.
This a@tion resist@ any tendency for the drill to be deflected off target and enables it to be h@ld perpendicular to the target surface.
The sliding arm may be permanently att@ched to @t@ @u@po@ting collar or may be d@tachable from it.
The s@@po@ting collar may @@ simply a friction fit on@@ the body of the drill or may incorporate @ @la@@ bolt to retain it @n position. Th@ supporting collar may incorporate the steadying hand@e and/or a depth stop which are commonly attached to portable drills.

1. A drill guide comprising an attach@ent coller which @@@@tes @ust behind the chuc@ on the body of a port@ble electric drill and to w@ @@ @@ @@ta@@ed a @@@tangular sectioned silding arm. The sliding arm has an attached alignment plate with a non-slip face and a s@uare hole for positioning the drill bit accuratel@ on the target @@@t for drilling. @ compres@ion spring is located on the @@@ding @@m betweer @ts @@@@nment plate and it@ atta@@ment collar.
