Abstract

A bag is composed of two layers (1) of synthetic material placed one on top of the other, a chamber for receiving an object to be packed being formed between the layers (1), an upper hanging opening (4) being provided in the layers (1) and an adhesive strip (3), which is adhesive on both sides thereof, being arranged between the hanging opening (4) and the chamber and between the layers (1) of synthetic material. The synthetic material may be transparent plastics.

Description

2335652 1 BAG-TYPE PACKAGING The present invention relates to a bag-type
packaging with two layers of synthetic material placed one on top of the other, wherein a chamber for receiving an object to be packed is formed between the layers of synthetic material and an upper hanging opening is provided in the layers of synthetic material.
Various bag-type packagings of the above-described type are known in the art. They frequently have at the top thereof a piece of stiff cardboard or the like in which the hanging opening is provided. The layers of synthetic material which form the actual chamber for receiving the object to be packed are -frequently transparent, so that it is possible to recognize the contents.
When the reinforcing piece of cardboard in the upper portion is missing, the shape of the bag-type packaging, after being hung up, is determined by the object which has been packed. This frequently results in a shape which is not attractive. Moreover, the object is not tightly packed because the hanging opening causes the chamber to be in communication with the surrounding air.
Therefore, it is a primary object of the present invention to provide a bag-type packaging of the above-described type which can maintain its shape even after being hung up at the hanging opening and which can simultaneously provide a protected and air-tight packaging.
In accordance with the present invention, a bag-type packaging comprises two layers of synthetic material placed one on top of the other, a chamber for receiving an object to be packed being formed between the layers, an upper hanging opening being provided in the layers and an adhesive strip, which is adhesive on both sides thereof, being arranged between the hanging opening and the chamber and between the layers of synthetic material.
As a result of the f act that the adhesive strip is provided between the hanging opening and the chamber for 2 receiving the object to be packed, these two portions are separated from each other. Communication to the surrounding air which would be allowed by the hanging opening is closed off, so that the packed object is packed in a tightly closed manner. No direct connection to the environment exists. Simultaneously, the adhesive strip reinforces the packaging and, thus, ensures that any attractive shape which is determined by the shape of the layers of synthetic material is maintained. The adhesive strip does not result in any significant increase in the thickness of the packaging because the adhesive strip can be constructed practically as thin as desired.
In accordance with an advantageous feature of the present invention, the packaging has a rectangular shape with an upper edge and a width, wherein, in a position of use of the packaging, the hanging opening is located adjacent the upper edge and the adhesive strip is located underneath the hanging opening, and wherein the. adhesive strip extends over the entire width of the packaging. 20 In accordance with another advantageous feature of the present invention, the layers of synthetic material are transparent. A bag-type packaging, in accordance with the present invention, will now be described in more detail, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:- Fig. 1 is a plan view of a bag-type packaging according to the present invention; and Fig. 2 is partial cross-sectional view of detail E of Fig. 1.
The accompanying drawings show a bag-type packaging according to the present invention. The packaging is formed by two foils 1, wherein a chamber for receiving one or more objects to be packed is provided between the two foils 1. The foils 1 frequently are transparent foils of synthetic material, e.g. a plastics material. Each foil 1 constitutes a layer of the packaging but, alternatively, 3 1 1 1 one foil 1 may be folded to form both layers of the packaging.
A hanging opening 4 is provided in the upper area of the packaging. An adhesive strip 3 which is adhesive on both sides thereof is provided underneath the hanging opening 4. The adhesive strip 3 tightly separates the area provided for allowing hanging from the chamber for receiving the object to be packed. When the bag-type packaging is tightly closed by welding or the like at the sides and at a bottom 2 thereof, the adhesive strip 3 produces a hermetically sealed chamber, i.e. there is no direct connection between the chamber and the surrounding air. Simultaneously, the adhesive strip 3 reinforces the bag-type packaging, so that it can be hung up without resulting in unsightly distortions and deformations of the packaging.
The bag-type packaging is manufactured, for example, in a machine in such a way that two foils 1 are fed from supply rolls toward each other in order to receive the object to be packed between the foils 1. Before that, the adhesive strip 3 is applied or introduced. The edges at the sides and at the bottom 2 are closed by welding. When the hanging opening 4 is punched, the actual chamber remains hermetically closed.
It is also possible to manufacture the bag-type packaging separately and to leave it open at the bottom 2. The object can then be inserted through the bottom 2. The bag-type packaging is then closed by welding, or by folding the bottom 2 over and gluing.

A bag-type packaging comprising two layers of synthetic material placed one on top of the other, a chamber for receiving an object to be packed being formed between the layers, an upper hanging opening being provided in the layers and an adhesive strip, which is adhesive on both sides thereof, being arranged between the hanging opening and the chamber and between the layers of synthetic 10 material.
2. A bag-type packaging according to claim 1, wherein the packaging has a rectangular shape with an upper edge and a width, wherein, in a position of use of the packaging, the hanging opening is located adjacent the upper edge and the adhesive strip is located underneath the hanging opening, and wherein the adhesive strip extends over the entire width of the packaging.
3. A bag-type packaging according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the layers of synthetic material are transparent.
