Abstract

It is now common place to attach a cover screen over the front of, for example, a VDU which cover screen may, for example, be a mesh glass or plastics. The cover screen serves to reduce glare, static and emissions. The cover screen is supported in a perimeter frame which is then positioned over the front of a VDU screen. The production of a cover screen support which will fit a number of differently sized or shaped appliances is therefore desirable. Accordingly there is provided a cover screen support 10 comprising a perimeter frame 14 which supports a cover screen 12, the perimeter frame further comprising a top plate 16 and two side plates 18,20 which when the cover screen support is in use extend over respective top and side panels of an appliance and resiliant means 26 enabling the cover screen to be moved horizontally with respect to the appliance for accurate location relative thereto. An earthing wire 38 is provided.

1 DESCRIPTIO A COVER SCREEN SL-PPORT

The present invention relates to improvements in or relating to a cover screen support.

It is now common place to attach a cover screen over the front of, for example, a VDU which cover screen may, for example, be a mesh glass or plastics. The cover screen serves to reduce clare, static and emissions. The cover screen is supported in a perimeter frame which is then positioned over the front of a VDU screen.

However a problem exists in providing a universal cover screen support which can locate the cover screen accurately over the front of a variety of VDU screens, since in an office there may be a number of different appliances which vary in size or shape.

The production of a cover screen support which will fit a number of differently sized or shaped appliances is therefore desirable.

According to the present invention there is provided a cover screen support comprising a perimeter frame which supports a cover screen, the perimeter frame further comprising a top plate and two side plates which when the cover screen support is in use extend over respective top and side panels of an appliance and means enabling, the cover screen to be moved horizontally with respect to the appliance for accurate location relative thereto.

The preferred means for achieving this is to provide resilient means on an inner face of one or both of the side plates.

2 More preferably still the resilient means is a compressible material such as, for example, foam or rubber. The compressible material may run along all or part of one or both inner faces of the side plates.

By applying a compression force in the appropriate places the cover screen can be accurately located and held in position by an appropriate fixing means, for example sticky tape or hook and loop fasteners.

Alternative means, for example, springs, which could, for example, extend inwardly from the side plates or stop members which could be positioned on the inner face of the perimeter frame could be used to enable accurate positioning of the cover screen support. Such means do not however produce the beneficial seal which can be achieved with the compressible material.

In a modification the top plate could also be provided with means enabling the cover screen to be moved vertically.

In yet a further embodiment the top and side plates could be mounted to the inner face of the perimeter frame such that they could be positioned to size. In this regard they could either be slidably mounted such that the top plate moves up and down and the side plates move from side to side or clipped into the appropriate position.

In one embodiment there is provided a cover screen support comprising a perimeter frame which supports a cover screen, having an upper 0 flange and two side flanges projecting from the frame which when the cover C1 screen support is in use extend over the top and sides respectively of an 3 appliance one or each side flange carrying an abutment member having an abutment face which is resiliently disposed with respect to the side flange.

The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the following figs in which:- Fia 1 is a perspective view from the rear and below of one embodiment of a cover screen support according, to the invention; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view from the front and above of the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 1.

Referring to the Figs, the cover screen support 10 comprises a coated alass screen 12 which is supported in a plastics perimeter frame 14. A top plate 16 and two side plates 18 and 20 extend rearwardly from the perimeter frame. These plates which are made of plastics and may be an integral part of the perimeter frame, serve to attach the cover screen support to an appliance. They also provide a barrier preventing dust getting behind the cover screen and serve to reduce emissions from the appliance. A plastics spacer 22, is provided on the inner face 24 of the top plate 16 and a polythene foam strip 26, with a high degree of compressibility is provided part way down the inner faces 28, 30 of the side plates 18 and 20. Due to the resilient nature of the material the cover screen support can be positioned correctly on a number of different appliances.

To ensure the cover screen support is held in position; the inner face 32 of a screen retaining member 34 is provided with one or more sticky tabs 36.

4 In Fig. 1 the tabs are positioned on the screen retaining member 34 and on the contact face of spacer 22. An earthing 38 is also provided.

Claims

1. A cover screen support comprising a perimeter frame which supports a cover screen, the perimeter frame further comprising a top plate and two side plates which when the cover screen support is in use extend over respective top and side panels of an appliance and means enabling the cover screen to be moved horizontally with respect to the appliance for accurate location relative thereto.

2. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 1 in which the means enabling the cover screen to be moved horizontally with respect to the appliance is a resilient means located on an inner face of one or both side plates.

3. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 2 in which the resilient means is a compressible material.

4. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 3 in which the compressible material is foam or rubber.

5. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 3 or 4 in which the compressible material runs along all of one or both inner faces of the side plates.

6. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 3 or 4 in which the compressible material runs along part of one or both inner faces of the side plates.

7. A cover screen support as claimed in any of the preceding claims, further comprising fixing means for attaching the cover screen support 6 to the appliance.

8. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 7 wherein the fixing means comprises sticky tape or hook and loop fasteners.

9. A cover screen support as claimed in any of the preceding claims further comprising means enabling the cover screen to be moved vertically.

10. A cover screen support as claimed in claim 9 wherein the means enabling the cover screen support to be moved vertically is a resilient means located on an inner face of the top plate.

11. A cover screen support as claimed in any of the preceding claims further comprising an earth.

12. A cover screen support comprising a perimeter frame which supports a cover screen, having an upper flange and two side flanges projecting from the frame which when the cover screen support is in use extend over the top and sides respectively of an appliance one or each side flange carrying an abutment member having an abutment face which is resiliently disposed with respect to the side flange.

13. A cover screen support substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the drawings.
