Collecting-boxes; boxes combined with means for displaying advertisements.-A device for collecting money for charitable purposes comprises a container having a movable tray or drawer fitted with a hinged or movable bottom, the tray or drawer being automatically presented in the open or extended position projecting outside the container for the reception of money and being adapted to be closed by hand or automatically so that the bottom of the tray or drawer, which in the open or extended position is held against movement, moves and deposits the contents into the container. As shown in Fig. 1, the bottom 14 of the drawer 10 is hinged at 15 and the drawer is automatically projected outside the container 7 by springs 13 on rods 9 on which the drawer is slidably mounted; in the projected position the bottom 10 is supported by the edge of the container, but when the drawer is pushed in the bottom falls on the bevel 16 and deposits the contents of the drawer into the container 7. An advertising or display plate 18 may be attached to a spindle 19 controlled by springs which force the plate to display position as the drawer is automatically opened. There may be more than one drawer and in a modification a pair of drawers are connected together and are automatically opened and closed alternately. The drawers are reciprocated by means of a lever which is rocked continuously or intermittingly and is connected to spindles mounted in the drawers and carrying rollers running along guide rails; the upper drawer delivers the contents to the container direct or to a shoot which delivers them to the lower drawer from which they drop into the container. Stops are provided to prevent the complete withdrawal of a drawer and the container may be fitted with a door or cover.
