Abstract
233,437. Zeiler, M. Feb. 11, 1924. Cases; cells; electrolytes.-In cells of the kind in which the zinc &c. container is in two parts telescopically connected, and the electrolyte 10 is stored, until the cell is to be taken into use, in a compartment or reservoir at the lower end of the container, being kept out of contact with the carbon electrode 11 by a frangible partition 8, the parts 3, 4 are of approximately the same length and air-spaces or channels 6 are left between them. The cell or battery may have a case of cardboard &c. also made in two telescoping parts 19, 20. Fig. 3 shows a three-cell battery before required for use, with the parts extended and partition 8 intact, the battery having the usual terminal strips U, V. Fig. 6 shows a similar battery collapsed for use, the partitions 8 having been broken by the ends of the electrodes 11 and the electrolyte distributed. In this form, the terminal leads are embedded in the seal 14, the lead V being connected to a socket W which accommodates a holder X and lamp Y, the lead U co-operating with the usual central contact of the lamp. When the lamp is not required, the holder X with lamp Y are withdrawn from the socket W and are re-inserted the other way up.
