Abstract

A polished natural stone intended as a token of affection comprises two parts cut from a single larger piece of eg pink Welsh granite and which form a heart when joined. The join involves a tongue and groove joint and co-operating magnets in each piece which attract them together.

Description

INTERFACING STONES This invention relates to two interfacing stones Individuals wishing to use a token of affection demonstrating their love for their partners presently buy a ring or other gift, but these usually bear little recognisable sign of the specific couples belonging together. Such gifts, especially before marriage and living together, are usually intended solely for one person or the other and not intended to be owned jointly: as a singular memento of their mutual love and affection for each other.
According to the present invention there is provided a pair of interfacing stones comprising two distinctive pieces of polished natural stone, originating from the same single piece of larger stone, which can be joined together to form the shape of a heart, meeting vertically at its centre. The stone used may be pink Welsh granite or any other stone, the pieces of which are interfaced and attracted by magnets. Either of the partners may obtain the two pieces of the heart stone and keep one piece them self and give the other to their partner.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows the two pieces of the heart in position together Figure 2 shows in perspective, the top edge of the heart to reveal the joining of the two pieces Figure 3 sllows in perspective the unpolished male protrusion of the left hand piece and the positions of its four magnets Figure 4 shows in perspective. the female groove on the right hand piece and the positions of its four magnets Figure 5 shows the rounding of the edges of the outer faces of the heart Referring to the drawing the stones comprise a heart shape. As shown in Fig 1 each of the two pieces resembles the shape of the capital letter 'D'. One piece resembles a fonvardreading D to create the left side of the heart shape, and one resembles a reverse-reading D (as if a mirror image of the other) to be positioned on the right hand side to complete the shape of the heart.
As shown in Fig 2 at the vertical point at which the two stones connect there is a male:female join vertically along the length of each of the two pieces.
As shown in Fig 3 the male piece (the left side of the heart) protrudes slightly with a vertical round-edge insert.
As shown in Fig 4 the female piece of the heart is grooved similarly-shaped to, bul in reverse of the male protsusiofl, the two pieces makillg a snug fit when placed together. The tv.'o pieces are attracted together by the fixture of four virtually concealed magnets embedded in each piece to attract and hold the two pieces together as a heart shape when placed on a flat surface.
The letter 'D' shape for the right hand side and its reverse image for the left hand side may be based on the contours of the letter D similar to that used by Diana, Princess of Wales in her signature. As shown in Fig 5 the outer edges of the heart are rounded. The two edges forming the vertical join have right angled edges. All outer-facing surfaces visible on the combined heart shape are highly polished to reveal the natural properties of the stone; the male and female vertical edges which form the join are left unpolished.
Each stone is uniquely marked to distinguish it from every other. Each piece may bear initials of the names of the couple for whom the stones are personally produced and simplified forms of their astrological birth signs. A Certificate of Authentication is provided to identify individually each pair of stones and distinguish them from any other pair.
