Abstract

A screen includes an area of material 10 having one or more poles 8, the pole or poles being located at the ends in formations 9 of supports 7. The material may be loosely hung as shown or mechanically or motor-wound onto an upper pole or roller (figure 3), or several poles may be arranged to form a fan shape (figures 6 and 7). The support may be linear as shown or shaped (figures 8a-8d). The poles and supports may be of metal plastics or wood.

Description

SCREENS The screen will close off the unsightly but leave maximum light. These screens are completely mobile and adaptable to various sizes, types of window or area that needs to be private such as a bath, they can also be used for interior design.
Living on the first floor I needed to screen off the road but wanted the light from above, one side of the window is overlooked so I needed something to screen that also.
The basic screens are shown in the drawings as follows.
Figure 1. The single screen with two Supports and two poles.
Figure 2. The double screen with four supports and four poles.
Figure 3. Shows a much larger style with an extra support.
Figure 4 and 5 Fan shaped support which allows the poles to be angled to suit.
Figure 4a. Shows the side angle of figure 4.
Figure 6. Shows two of the fan shaped screens one open and one closed.
Figure 7. Shows one large fan shaped screen.
Figure 8a, 8b, Sc and Sd show some variations.
SCREENS The material 10 is sewn so the poles 8 are inserted into the hems and poles are placed into notches 9 or holes 12 in the supports 7. The supports are fixed to the wall either outside the window or closer in the recess or both. The poles or Supports can be of any shape. The notches can face the window or away from the window any number of notches or holes can be used .The poles can be of any shape. The lower pole can be used to roll up the loose material or it can be left hanging, alternatively the upper pole could also be used to roll up the material. The lower pole can also be fixed in rings screwed into the bottom of each support or below the window ledge. The rolling and adjusting of height can be done manually or by a pulley system or motorised (manual only shown in drawings). The Supports and poles can be made of wood, plastic or metal the material can be of plastic, solar plastic, canvas or any other fabric.
In figure 9 the supports could be connected so the notches face both ways.
In figure 3 the screen suitable for doorway and window, depending on the size of the space to cover and material used, the extra support 11 may be enough to support the poles so supports 7 may not be needed, support 11 could have notches or holes 12. A support of any shape could be used as in figures 8b,8c and 8d.
In figure 4 the fan shaped support 14 and 15 allows the poles to be angled to suit, held in place by screwing into the support if needed, can be a single block 14 or double block 15 and can be of any length. The poles are placed side by side in the fully opened position and the material is rolled up or left hanging. The fan style can be used together with the other style to create endless designs and layouts. Any number of holes can be used and the supports can be placed in any way to screen whatever is needed. They can be fixed to the wall by screwing 13 or may need an enclosing bracket for heavier material. The support could also be made with the notches or holes pointing in various directions giving a different effect. Also the support could be divided into individual sections that can swivel on top of each other allowing the poles to move into a variety of directions. For the material to follow the shape of the Supports small fastenings can be made.
As an alternative to one long support with a series of notches or holes the supports can be divided up into separate individual smaller supports each having only one or few notches or holes.
