Abstract
232,688. Gramophone Co., Ltd., and Buckle, H. L. T. Jan. 24, 1924. Diaphragms not associated with tone-arms. - Relates to gramophones or the like, particularly of the kind having a large diaphragm, and consists in special means for enabling the diaphragm to stand upright when in use, to be laid flat when out of action, and to be readily locked in the operative position or to be unlocked by raising the diaphragm-supporting member. The diaphragm is mounted as usual in a ring 19, carried by a spider 18 which is pivoted to the apex of a triangular frame 14 by means of a screw and a friction mounting. The frame 14 is pivoted between lugs 13 on a tubular member 5, rotatably mounted on a tube 6, which protrudes from the axial bore of a hollow airm 3. This arm is mounted between bearings 4 so that it can swing in a plane parallel to that of the record. A spring-pressed latch 10 is pivoted on the arm 3, and when the diaphragm is in the vertical position shown, for playing, the latch engages in a notch 12 in the nose portion 5, looking it against rotation. When the machine is not required for use, the diaphragm-carrying framel is moved backwardly on its pivot between the lugs 13, until a projection 27 lifts the latch 10 out of locking engagement with the nose 5. The latter is then free to rotate and allow the diaphragm and its support 14 to be turned down to the horizontal position. The pressure of the needle on the record can be adjusted by means of a spring 23 within the tube 6, the spring acting through a plunger 22 upon a lug 21 depending from the frame 14.
