Abstract
An adjustable rest for a cue comprises a body 10 and a head 18, the body having legs 13 to support the distal end of the rest on a games table, the legs being individually adjustable for length, the head being mounted on a rod 12 which is adjustably and telescopically mounted in the rest body, the head bearing arms 15 and the arms bearing fingers 16 and being rotatable about their longitudinal axis. Locking means may be provided to maintain the rest in any position taken up.
Description
MULTIPURPOSE REST HEAD
This invention relates to a multipurpose snooker rest head
Snooker rest heads are well known implements designed to become an extension to a snooker players arm, allowing the user the opportunity to cue shots at a distance or which would partially or wholly be deemed impossible to play. Rest heads are produced in several shapes to suit any given situation and are fixed to extendable rest sticks, or sticks of variable lengths to a ratio of one to one. A total of seven rest heads, with a combination of stick lengths are required to be made available for use in any one snooker match. There are no moveable parts on current rest heads.
The number of rests required and the maintenance needed to keep them, with their rest sticks, in a serviceable condition is however relatively expensive. Moreover, situations can t till occur during a snooker match from which a player can not cue his chosen shot.
According to t be present invention there is provided a multipurpose snooker rest head comprising a ndy of cylindrical shape which becomes an integral part of the extendable reot stick at its rear end with a lower boss at the front end thereof, two legs with integral extendible independent feet are mounted on the lower boss, a round slide with an upper boss at the front end thereof is mounted in the cylinder of the body so that the lower and upper boss interlock adjacent to each other when the slide is closed Means for releasably securing the slide in any chosen position are provided. Mounted on the upper boss are two arms, at the centre of and at right angles thereof are two upper arms independently set to pivot around an axis through the centre of the arms.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a front view of the rest head to identify parts.
Figure 2 shows in perspective the rest with slide fully closed.
Figure 3 iliustrates the slide extend open and the feet extended downward and outward
Figure 4 shows the slide extended open and illustrates the position of the arms and upper arms when the slide is rotated through 180 degrees.
Figure 5 shows the slide extended open and illustrates the position of the arms and upper arms when the slide is rotated through 90 degrees.
Figure 6 shows a front view of the rest head and illustrates the position of an upper arm once it has been rotated through 180 degrees on its own axis.
Figure 7 shows a front view ofthe rest head and illustrates the position obtained by turning the complete rest head on its side.
Referring to the drawings the rest head comprises a body 10 of cylindrical shape which becomes an integral part ofthe extendable rest stick at its rear end and is capped at its front end by a lower boss 17. A slide 12, in the form of a piston, is set in the body and is releasably secured to the body by, for example, an integral catchment device such as a wedge shaped spring loaded clamp, or similar means [not shown].
At the front end of the slide an upper boss 18 is provided. Attached to the lower boss are two legs 13 with adjustable feet 14 which are releasably secured into the legs by, for example, an integral spring and ball device, or similar means [not shown].
Attached to the upper boss are two arms 15 with two upper arms 16 releasably secured at right angles to the arms on an axis through the centre of the arms by, for example, a spring loaded pressure pad or similar means [not shown].
In order to adjust the rest head from its closed position shown in Fig 2, the integral catchment device 22 is operated releasing the slide 12 allowing it to be withdrawn from its closed position in the direction of the arrow 19 as illustrated in Fig 3,4 and 5.
Once the upper boss 18 as moved clear of the lower boss 17 the slide becomes free to rotate through 360 degrees to afford adjustment of the arms 15 and upper arms 16 to a desired position as illustrated in Fig 4 and 5 and by arrow 20 when the chosen adjustment is completed the securing means will hold the slide in the rcquired position.
In order to raise the level of the rest head the feet 14 are pulled downwards and outwards as illustrated in Fig 3 until their movement is arrested in the extended position by the integral securing means in the legs 13. A rubber 0 ring set above the feet reduces any damage which may occur to the legs when foot adjustments are revearsed.
In order to rotate the upper arms 16 into a desired position, pressure is applied to the upper ann. The releasable securing means will allow the upper arm to rotate around its axis until the pressure is removed as illustrated in Fig 6 and by arrow 21.
To retum the rest head to its closed position, Fig 1, any step described is carried out in reverse sequence. This is complete when the upper boss 18 re-engages with the lower boss 17 in their adjacent position.
In order to use the rest head in the closed position on its side, Fig 7, the rest head is returned to its closed position, Fig 1, and rotated through 90 degrees to stand on one arm 15 and one foot 14. The upper arm 16 being rotated to accommodate the placement of the rest head as illustrated by arrow 21 in Fig 7.
Claims (4)
1. A multipurpose snooker rest head comprising a body of cylindrical shape which becomes an integral part of the extendable rest stick at its rear end with a lower boss at the front end thereof, two legs with integral extendable independent feet are mounted on the lower boss, a round slide with an upper boss at the front end thereof is mounted in the cylinder of the body so that the lower and upper boss interlock adjacent to each other when the slide is closed, means for releasably securing the slide in any chosen position in the body are provided, mounted on the upper boss are two arms, at the centre and at right angles thereof are two upper arms independently set to pivot around an axis through the centre of the arms.
2. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 wherein the lower boss will act as a guide means for the upper boss when the slide is being closed to bring the upper and lower boss into an adjacent position.
3 A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein tuo rubber buffer pads on the rear face of the upper boss will protect the front end of tha = body and lower boss during the closing of the slide.
4. A rest head as claimed in any preceeding claim and substantially as herein before described and illustrated.
4 A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein tbe slide when moved forward, open, and following the first 12.5 mm of such movement will allow the upper boss to disengage from the lower boss.
5. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim 4 wherein once the upper boss disengages from the lower boss the slide, arms and upper arms will become free to rotate through 360 degrees in a clockwise or anticlockwise direction.
6. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim+ or claimS wherein all movement ofthe slide, both lateral and rotational is arrested by one integral means for releasably securing such movement.
7. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim 6 wherein the slides maximum forward movement is controlled at 30 cm by a stop device which is part of, and which over rides the integral means for releasably securing the slide.
8. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 6 or claim 7 wherein the forward, opening movement ofthe slide may be arrested at any point between 0 to 30 cm by releasing the securing means at the appropriate point of the movement.
9. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim 5 or claim 6 wherein the slides rotational movement, either clockwise or anticlockwise may be arrested in any position through 360 degrees by releasing the securing means at the appropriate point of the movement.
10. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 wherein when the feet are both extended to raise the rest head they will lock and remain in the extended position until altered manually.
CLAIMS 11. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim wherein when only one foot either left or right is extended manually downwards and outwards it will allow the rest head to lean towards the opposite direction.
12. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim loor claim 10 wherein a rubber 0 ring set above the feet stops damage occurring when leg adjustments are revearsed.
13. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 wherein the upper arms will rotate through 360 degrees around their own axis independently of each other in either a clockwise or anticlockwise direction.
14. A multipurpose snooker rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim ia wherein the rotation of the upper arms which is achieved by applying pressure to the upper arms both in a clockwise or anti clockwise direction and may be stopped at any point during the rotation.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as blows An adiustable rest head for a snooker cue comprising a body and head, the body having legs to support the distal end of the rest on the games table, the legs being individually adjustable for height, thé head being mounted on a rod which is adjustably and telescopically set in the rest head body, the head bearing arms and the arms bearing fingers and being rotatable about their longitudinal axis.
2. A rest head as claimed in claim 1 wherein the distal end of the rest head body and the rest head bear cooperating structures so that the rotational motion of the rest head with respect to the rest head body is not possible when the rest head is in the closed position but the rest head is freely rotatable when in the open position.
3. A rest head as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein locking means are provided for maintaining the rest head in any desired configuration with respect to the rest head body.
