Abstract

A beverage container eg. Coffee jug, has a lid 2 which includes a filter 4. The lid is a leak tight fit into the container. With the lid removed, the dry beverage substance and hot water can be mixed in the container and brewed. The lid is assembled and the beverage can then be poured, but must pass through the filter before passing through the spout 3 which can be formed either as part of the lid or as part of the container. The filter 4 may be permanently fastened to the lid 2 or removable. After use the container and lid may be easily cleaned by simple rinsing under the tap.

Description

BEVERAGE FILTER This invention relates to a beverage filter.

Containers which allow the brewing and filtering of beverages are well known and consist of a container in which water can be heated or to which pre-heated water can be added. Various schemes allow the hot water to be mixed with the dry beverage substance, eg. Coffee grounds, and then filtered to provide a relatively particle free liquor.

These schemes are, however, relatively expensive. Moreover they are often complicated, difficult to clean or, in the case of plunger filters, limit the shape of the container.

According to the present invention there is provided a simple container together with a lid with an integrated filter. The dry beverage substance is mixed with hot water in the container and the lid assembled. The design of the lid allows the liquid to be poured from the container through the filter in the lid and out of the spout. Moreover the design of the lid and container may provide surfaces which can easily be cleaned by simple rinsing.

Two specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figures 1 and 1 a shows in perspective, the container and lid; Figure 2 and 2a shows in perspective, the underside of the lid with the filter removed; Figure 3 and 3a shows a cross section through the container and lid.

The first embodiment is shown in Figures 1,2 and 3 where the spout is formed as part of the lid.

The second embodiment is shown in Figures la, 2a and 3a where the spout is formed as part of the container.

Referring to the drawing the container comprises a single component 1 and the lid 2 includes filter 4. The filter is fastened to the lid and support S is provided for the filter. The spout 3 is formed either in the container or the lid. The fit between the container and the lid is such as to provide a leak tight seal 6 during pouring and a design feature such as a lip can be provided to ensure this is maintained. In the second embodiment it is essential that the seal 6 is placed below the spout 3. The materials of the container, lid and filter can be from plastic, glass, ceramic, metal or a combination thereof. The filter can be fastened to the lid permanently or may be removable.

While the lid is removed the dry beverage substance and hot water can be poured into the container and mixed together. After the lid has been assembled the beverage can be poured , but must pass through the filter before passing through the spout.

The lid and container may be designed without crevices and cleaning can be achieved by simply rinsing the lid and container under a tap.

Claims (5)

1. A beverage filter in which the filter is built into the lid.

2. A beverage filter as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the spout is formed in the lid.

3. A beverage filter as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the spout is formed in the container.

4. A beverage filter as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the filter is permanently fastened into the lid.

5. A beverage filter as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 or Claim 3 wherein the filter is assembled into the lid for subsequent removal.
